While playing, I have grown to love the sound of pickups that have a narrow magnetic field, like a Strat or strat sized humbucker and have come to pretty much hate the sound of a full sized humbucker. I like them when other people play them, but I can't stand them when I play. I have a three rail pickup equipped Strat with lighter winds than normal hot-rails, about 10k with ceramic magnets, and they are my absolute favorite sounding pickups. They were cheap too, about $50 for the set of three. I had to wax pot them myself though.

I think that some people don’t like the JB jr because they expect it to be sonically identical to the full-size JB. I think if it was made clearer that it retained some Strat single-coil characteristics, people might appreciate it more? The Everything Axe set is what I eventually went with for my grunge/ alternative/ utility guitar.

it all depends on what sound you are looking for. The jr offers a sharper, brighter sound and the full size humbucker has a fatter sound and tends to go low. Taking into account the pedals with the DS-2, the Jr would work better because this pedal has a more compressed sound and the Jr makes it shine more. For the classic sansamp, the full-size humbucker is better since that pedal, in addition to a powerful distortion, has a lot of harmonics and with the Jr you may lose strength and scream a little with the highs. What I can say from my point of view is that it all depends on the pedal you use or the configuration on the pedal for each pickup. But finally, both sound good and the Jr gives it a single coil aesthetic touch more like the mustang

@juniorducharme1691 Жыл бұрын
I am trying to find a solution for the sixties cycle hum in my mustang and i initially considered the jb jr, but if you look on the bottom there's pcb board. I initially thought they just overwound the coils to match the impedance of a jb and the reason it sounds like a single coil is because of the close string spacing of the pickup but it's done through digital circuitry. It's would still be worth it, seymour duncan paid an enormous amount of research and development to develop the pick up and it sounds very, very close, but in the end I'm probably going to go with the seymour duncan yjm fury pickups. Despite the clichéd eighties endorsee they are wound half way up regularly wound, and the other half reverse wound. It makes a more true single coil sound without adding hum. It's an idea that could have been done in Leo Fenders time if they'd thought of it. He would have thought that was quite clever. A humbucker will sound like a humbucker and a single coil will sound like a single coil basically. I don't honestly know if they'll ever truly capture the sound of the fender twin. According to chaos theory there are way to many variables for it to be viable. If you don't know what chaos theory is, read a book or listen to a podcast on the subject. I understand most people might not be familiar with the concept and I don't really feel like typing that out with my thumbs.
@juniorducharme1691 Жыл бұрын
I'll try. I know this is totally comparing apples to oranges but it will illustrate my point. It is literally impossible to make a cluster bomb where 100 percent of the bomb let's explode. Their percentage is surprising abysmal actually for such an extremely fine tuned precision engineered each one is and how many people with degree you couldn't imagine worked on. They want more than anything than for those bombs to explode. It's not on purpose obviously. After you introduce a certain number of variables they multiply against each other and it overlaps basically into infiniy which is obviously indecipherable. And that's just a bomb let. Those aren't a terribly hard thing to do if you think about it. A fender twin has so many variables involved in its operation it is insane. There's the tubes, the capacitators, if you knew how a tube amp worked it would blow your mind how many. So it may literally never be done. Right now you can get a used seventies silverface fender twin, which Kurt Cobain actually used by the way, he was mesmerized by the thing, online for about the price you paid for that amp. I'd hurry, they're dissapearing and obviously they won't be making anymore. I can't do it because I live in canada and shipping like that costs a bit much. And learn to play a scale at least. I can play guitar with one hand and I earned it. Believe me. If you knew who I really was you would fall down or something so don't feel dumb. I am not writing this to be mean, I am writing this to avert a possible tragedy.

@@NirvanaGuitars If you’re playing Nirvana, a good thing to my ears. Cobain wasn’t a down-up-down, miss a beat here and there guitarist. He was more like a those drummers who hit on every stroke, stepping in and out of rhythms and signatures at will. Those who play Nirvana tunes with a stiff wrist often sound inorganic/less dynamic to my ears. For example, most playTeen Spirit wrong because they’re stuck in the same rhythm hand pattern for the whole song; you’re not. Back in the 90’s, the wisdom passed around was that to play like Nirvana you had to get rid of the notion of a strong wrist and a count of hit and missed beats in your head. Basically do the opposite of what most guitar teachers would tell you to do - play loose rather than tight. You’ve got the limp wrist down in all off these demos 👌
