I wonder if microtonal was westernization of something we don’t understand, and, it is only microtonal to western people whereas for the creators of these hypnotizing sounds is just the way music is supposed to be. Do they really consider their music as microtonal?

Hard to answer without knowing history of music. But I think it is more close to latter. The core of Eastern music, (in particular, Turkish music) is 'makam' which can be tought of as a speacial scale with some certain features/rules. Each note in the scale has a name but when you try to map to the western music, some of the notes happen to be microtonal. it's extremely beautiful but the mixing on the vocal really hurts my ears. please cut out some of the high end
