SF2000 New Look! Great Price Retro Handheld and Now Has Custom Firmware! MinUI Retroarch

Honestly, for me this is THE emulation device of the year. HOWEVER, the caveat is that you're willing to put some work into it. - A new micro SD card is a must (in my place 32GB Sandisk cards cost 4-6 euros, so it wasn't much of an issue). - It comes with a user-replaceable,18650 battery (which isn't bad by any means) and you can/should get a brand new 3500 mAH battery with circuit protection from a local electronics/vape store, as the default one doesn't have undervolt protection (meaning that if you use for extended session at low voltage, then you'll eventually reduce the battery's life). - If it doesn't arrive with the latest (v1.6) firmware update preinstalled, you have to flash/install it as it improves the SNES/GBA emulation greatly. - The built-in button remapper doesn't work on correctly (at least not on every system) and you have to use an online tool (which is a PITA if you're not tech savvy) instead. - In order to remove the annoying menu music, you have to either go through a lengthy process to create a new (mute) sound file or search online for a user-created mute sound file (the later is much easier). - You have to create a few strangely named folders on the GBA folder, then drop the console's provided GBA bios file in them, in order to fix the performance of a few problematic GBA roms (google is your friend). If you are willing and able to make all these changes, *then* you have the best budget emulation device. Personally I went through all those changes and I'm still extremely satisfied with the end product, however someone who isn't tech-savvy or isn't willing to make these changes will likely end up disappointed. Also the device has some screen tearing issues (which IMHO is not that bad of deal, I barely noticed it) which is likely caused by the (mis)configuration of the default OS, meaning that once CFW is developed it will likely fix this issue. All the supported systems (except the GBA which is hit or miss) play nicely, a few notes: - If a SNES rom has slowdown - quit and restart it. With a few exception, it will play at full speed. - GBA emulation is strange, it's *very* hit or miss. For reference all GBA pokemon titles,Fire Emblem titles and most sidescrollers (Metroid, Mario remakes etc.), some hard-to-emulate-GBA roms (e.g. YuGiOh:7 Trials to Glory) run without issues, while Mario Kart Super Circuit has slowdown. - This device can also play Master System roms flawlessly, despite it not being mentioned by Datafrog. Lastly, the device is very sturdy and has an IPS screen. Honestly, it beats many much-more-expensive emulation devices on many aspects FWIW ( *couch* RG35XX *cough* ) and I'd advise anyone who is patient to take the plunge and buy one - if CFW is developed it all the cons I mentioned will be fixed.

I would say it’s a software issue. In my opinion, If there are screen tearing issues it’s virtually unplayable to me. Do you have those issues with this version if not, I don’t mind to do a little work on it to make it better to play. I just hate the screen tearing problem. I think the miyoo mini plus has a great screen from a budget handheld standpoint.

This is the best device under $20 for sure. No other device has a analogstick that low of a price. plays gba, gb pokemon mod hacks. and final fantasy. Amazing.

sort of similar, this device was an impulse buy when i purchased my miyoo mini plus, and i already have a powkiddy max2..... both are rolls royces in terms of performance..... but at 10 bucks for the solid sturdy ergonomics and a collection of 6000 roms along with the potential that it can improve in a few months makes this a no brainer if youre interested in a cheap neat little device which can double up as a travel companion and a console

In the case of the SD card, I think it's hardware specific. SDHC(micro) seems to work, but SDXC(Extented capacity 64gb>2TB) seems to have issues. It might be a hardware reader problem, where trying to access higher specs. Think of it like trying to put a dvd into a cdrom drive. Kinda like the same, but different. It's physically the same, but unreadble, because of more compressed tech. My 2 cents

Do you know if all of the black versions have labels on the inputs? Some of the pictures I've seen for the black ones do not have labels. I ordered one with the two controllers but it was from the Data Frog discount store. I have not received it yet.

Thats a good question, you can mod the SF200 but normally its a Bios issue for some games.. I would try to put the Bios files in the proper location and try it... otherwise SF2000 is relitively new for a handheld FC3000 has been out and has several mods.. it also comes out the box with NEO GEO and MAME

@@clopixelgamers yes my sf2000 supports all. arcade games. that came. with it, Neogeo, mame, kawaks, FB Alpha none of their roms work with it. I tried to. replace zfb files like sengoku 2 by sengoku3.zfp.. and placed the actual. zip. rom in bin folder but that Didn't work. either. Tried tadpole app.. still in vain.

Thats a great question, theres images online... My recommendation is to clone your SD with any of these handhelds... I always keep a copy on dec just in case they get corrupted...

Clone the Corrupted SD you currently have to a new SD. Sometimes the data tables just have to be worked... Use Macromium Reflect... its a free software you can clone any HD, Flash Drive, or SD Card.

Hmm you have a great question. Well PSP NDS Modded is very capable... But these are ready to go solutions for a budget price.. Id say it depends on what era you are trying to game. Anything 5th Gen and above id say no, but me im not particularly trying to 3D game on these... GBA yes, and before that...These are great gifts and a go to console to explore 4th gen and before libraries.

Ill be honest, screen tear is no big deal to me because Im all about the game itself, so the best advice I can give you is look towards custom firmware like emulation station etc so you can customize the emulators and roms. theres people online that have used custom firmware on this.. thanks for your question.@@JuandelaCruz-zl1le

Im not exactly sure, I got the original only to restore my original console...There are videos and os online, my advice to anyone who buys ANY Emulation console is to immediately clone the original sd to an upgraded brand.

I cant say for sure if the new and old is different on the inside because Id have to tear down both consoles to see for sure if theres a board change...... Hmm.. thats interesting about the D pad, hopefully its the membrane or micro switch...the new controllers are great... I think the easiest way to find out if the Old SF2000 and the NEW SF2000 is to look at both boards and search for number change or compnent orientation... Thanks for your comment!

Yes Core is an emulator.. they are called cores. Roms = Games Cores = Emulators Custom Firmware = OS hopefully Im explaining this clearly.

To be honest yes, I think thats a good option for some but not everyone, if you already have a PSP and want to save money... I used to do the battery mods for the 1000s and the 2000s but TBH that was years ago. Today I went full circle, got a new PSP and Keep it stock, no mods. Then I use my SF2000, and my FC3000 for my retro console... Its cheaper and quite frankly fun.

I don't do that type of thing for other people so to speak for liability issues but Its pretty simple they will give you directions on how to do it...They will give you an image and you just burn it to the new SD.

Nice review, although personally I don't agree with the findings over this hardware. The new case colours do look nice, but for balance can you confirm if you shake the unit every button still rattles? 8-bit is ok, MAME is ok, but other bundled platforms don't run at full speed. There is promise in the device but it needs so much work, needs new membrane on the Dpad and the custom firmware is about 50% of the way there from what I've seen, but if it gets over the line it might save this device.

I've multiple handhelds, some into the triple digit price range and this one is my favorite. This device is great, just because it costs as much as a couple big-macs from mcdnalds doesn't mean it's not worth it tho. I have a AV to HDMI converter I use and even some of my 100+ dollar handhelds don't have TV out, only my RG353v. Other than the odd bug where you must launch a SNES game twice, they run great. I've fully finished Super Metroid on this device, something that requires good performance and low latency to enjoy. @handheldgaming4life @@handheldgaming4life

ALWAYS BACKUP your sd card when you intend to constantly pop in and out the sd card to tinker with...... just usual common sense care of your own belongings etc

FC3000 is around the same price point and runs doom no problem.. its probably emulation or software on SF2000...If doom is your goal with this I would run a port of it.
