I watch quite a few aviation channels, and I've seen a lot of videos on the vision jet. I think this is the first time I've seen someone actually get in and sit in the pilot seat. That has to be one of the easiest entries to the pilot seat I've ever seen, on any airplane. What a great design.

It is an easy airplane to fly, and it is pretty fun. Other than that however, it is pretty weak. It is VERY limited on what it can carry. It didn't work for my company, so we got something larger. If it is just going to be you and one other person, this plane is pretty good. If you want to carry any more than that, I would look for something else.

No pilot experience here, was wondering how significant the wake turbulence is with 2000 feet separation. The heavy was moving out smartly across your nose to port so it seemed to me should have vectored you to the right.
@TheRunwayRyan2 жыл бұрын
Wake turbulence can be significant in the right situations. Being in a small airplane like the Vision Jet passing underneath a 747 is a potential problem. You are also correct, that the vector the controller gave me was bad. I definitely should have been vectored to the right. Furthermore, I should have spoken up and requested that instead once she turned me to the left.
@kevinwilliams99172 жыл бұрын
@@TheRunwayRyan, a 1,000 feet is standard separation in the terminal environment. But if you were concerned, you should have asked for a deviation to the right or a descent, etc
@TheRunwayRyan2 жыл бұрын
@@kevinwilliams9917 If you see in the video, I did ask for a deviation. She unfortunately turned me in the worst direction. You are correct though, I should have been more specific about exactly what I wanted, or spoke up more once she turned me to the left.

While it’s a pretty neat looking aircraft, this “jet” might as well be a P46T, in my opinion. When I was feeding one of the other sectors a line of jets from my airspace with an SF50 in the middle of the line, I instructed the aircraft to maintain 250kts and the pilot protested, “we can only maybe maintain 235kts”. You’ve basically got yourself a $2.5 million turboprop with small turbofan that goes “WOOSH”
@TheRunwayRyan2 жыл бұрын
Ya, it's really a turboprop as far as performance goes. That's exactly why at my primary job we only had it for 4 months.

I might not have caught it all, but I'm not a fan of how the wake turbulence threat was addressed. The nature of wake turbulence makes it safest to cross at 90 degrees to the path of the heavy aircraft. Additionally, the further away from the generating aircraft you are, the weaker the turbulence. So, by turning TOWARDS the heavy, the pilot seems to put himself at higher, not lower risk. Other options were to turn away from the heavy instead of towards it, but that still isn't good. Doing a right 360 would have been better. Climbing to the altitude of the heavy would have been even better. But heading straight through would have been better than following. Just some other thoughts.
@TheRunwayRyan2 жыл бұрын
I completely agree, it was a really bad vector from ATC, and I should have said something.

Just curious, you add that call sign on your flight plan ??? And, do you usually use numbers from a N number ??
@TheRunwayRyan2 жыл бұрын
Correct, this callsign is filed just like you would a tail number. In this case, I use the callsign so that I don't have to say the aircraft's tail number on this video. This allows for some privacy for the aircraft owner.

@TheRunwayRyan2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your comment, and I’m bummed to hear that it ruined the video for you. Unfortunately I don’t own these airplanes, I simply fly them for the owners. Because of that, I have to respect the owners wishes for privacy and edit out certain telltale signs. I still enjoy making these videos, and I learned a lot from videos like this when I was coming up. I’m hoping to help others the same way. Specifically, I never thought there were good videos operating in the IFR environment. If you like these videos, I encourage you to come back in a couple weeks. I have one coming out that is not redacted, because the owners are ok with it.

@@TheRunwayRyan I can appreciate that and perhaps I didn’t catch that in your vid. I could tell where each cut was made where it was spliced and that’s what I referred to. To see an airplane there and then not there or a clearance halfway just ruined it for me in that aspect. But if you fly for other folks then I can see where privacy can be an issue.
