i notice look just has a really hard time going in for a attack, meanwhile just has fast dashes all over the place like he has more range or something. I can see why luke lost. he kept struggling to connect one

So when you pick Ed it states something to the degree of range fighter but he seems like he plays in close with some moves to help close the distance quick. Am I reading into wrong?

He's designed to be a bait and punish zoner, or an "Outboxer"/defensive boxer (hence his stance and design leaning more into Muhammad Ali or Floyd Mayweather). Someone who's good at punishing their opponent's attacks by using good defensive maneuvers. However he's really good at extending close range, so most people like floating him at midrange so he can either extend into his long combos or keep himself safe, similarly to a swordfighter in Smash Bros or characters like Testament in Guilty Gear. Not exactly a pure Zoner like JP or Dhalsim but someone who likes having space to assert their pressure
