4:40 tropes are good! They are the ingredients to many good stories. I do love when they’re done in new and fresh ways though.

@@reading_faerie haha yeah my wife likes bold colours. It's also kind of funny as we're both musicians and we call it the 'green room' (which at least in the UK is where performers chill before their show). Thanks for watching :)

Hi and welcome to booktube from a long-timer (but with a really small channel). Fantasy and SF are among my favourite genres. I must admit I'm noo strickt if people can't pronounce a name correctly. There are so manylanguages in the world, and we really can't speak them all. I tried reading Game of Thrones, but DNF-ed it at around 100 pages. It really got on my nerves! Thanks, but no thanks. Being a Brit, you really should read Emma Newman's books. She's such an underrated and BRILLIANT author.

Although LOTR is much higher for me, I appreciate the balls of putting it lower and also Stormlight lower. (Tbh if it weren’t a gateway for so many or Sanderson such a juggernaut, I think that would be more common). Love seeing Ian M Banks and Peter Hamilton here! They’re on the TBR list but I hope you can make more content about them and get the ball rolling!
@SamNot-so-wiseАй бұрын
@@iSamwise hahaha thank you but I certainly don't intend to lie to anyone about these things. And the good thing about lists like these is they naturally move around the more you think about them (and do rereads) :) I think I need to reread LOTR next year and take stock as a more experienced reader. Another must for next year is another Hamilton series! Glad to hear Banks is on the TBR, I am hoping to make a video about him in the next couple of months (got to let the channel grow a bit before I do anything too obscure!). Thank you for watching :)

Hi Sam! Very Nice 1st video. You got my sub. Looking forward to more from you! (Added some books to check out from your list. Thanks!) The Culture series is new to me. You say it is a series of standalones. Do i need to read them ion the 1-10 order? or does it not matter where to start? Thanks again!
@SamNot-so-wiseАй бұрын
@@gregray4011 Oh thank you so much!! Glad to hear I can be of service too. Technically you can read The Culture in any order, they aren't linked by any narrative threads, just the world in which it is set. However I think it is more fun to read them chronologically as Banks does add easter eggs and builds on his world. One big caveat is I wouldn't recommend starting with 'Consider Phlebas' (the first book) as it is considered by most as the weakest and not necessarily reprentative of the series as a whole. But they are all their own seperate stories and all utterly brilliant, a huge recommend from me!
