To answer that question, Cheese was originally male, but recently, all Chao are referred with gender neutral terms.

Secondly, just looked it up on the wiki, in all of the wikis I look up, they either refer to cheese as male, or genderless (but called male). Also little pieces of clothing can indicate a character's gender, such as bowties on the chest for males and a ribbon in the hair for females. Doesnt mean every character with a bowtie is male, they're just common indicators for fictional characters

Shadow and 06 are the only "dark age" sonic games. Also I believe the "dark age" inplies that Sonic has been ridiculed due to well 2 bad games and few questionable gimmicks. Nowadays.... I think 2010s Sonic should get ridiculed. He's not the same, he's just a "gary sue" with no personality. This franchise, man......
