I'm sure we've all heard the Dr. Seuss story and film of "how the Grinch Stole Christmas," but have you heard of a Marines Sergeant Major doing it? Now you have. The Marines in 2nd BN 7th INF Reg in 29 Palms had a version of their Holiday taken away from them. Angry Drill SGT gives his thoughts on the situation.

Welcome too the new age of SHARP its bullshit. I got in trouble with my commanding NCO recently for saying ladies first. We used too have fight Club now you assume someone's gender in the Military its a death wish and God forbid you try and make your battles tougher so they don't get killed in the line of duty. This is another reason I'm making the Military my career. If its not fixed by the time I make Sergeant Major of the Army. I'll fix it myself. @@spankthemonkey3437 I'm not sure. Based on what the New Sergeant Major of the Army said which is "this is more of a volunteer service now." From that his wording could illustrate that he is trying too appeal too the majority to maximize volunteers aka sensitive generation. I got got a beatdown a couple of times and now they’re some of my best memories, many fights were strictly because we were drunk and just wanted to see who were better fighters. I never said a word about it and neither did the others. The infantry life is changing, and not really for the better.

@robertmorris8997
@robertmorris8997 2 жыл бұрын
@@worldcure7883 All the ribbons and medals are arranged according to precedence. For instance, the Good Conduct "outranks" the National Defense. The order has nothing to do with whatever you were saying about his enlistment. Another way to look at it is the older the medal/ribbon since inception, the higher it ranks among like medals, for example decorations vs decorations, but they are higher than campaign medals. The Drill Instructor Ribbon is lowest, because it hasn't been around as long as the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal has been around longer than the Iraq, Afghanistan and GWOT stuff, so it's higher.

I missed this one last year. True story to share: My Navy squadron had the policy that E-4’s and E-5’s could stand watch at the ASDO desk (the main duty desk that is manned 24 hours per day at the squadron). I don’t celebrate Christmas (not Christian). So every year, I would find the duty section that had Christmas day watch. There were three 8-hour shifts. I’d tell that duty section to decide which of those shifts they wanted me to take, and I would volunteer to take that watch for that person on Christmas day. Well, one year I randomly had watch on Thanksgiving Day. Whatever, bad luck. I still did my usual Christmas day thing. The following year, our squadron made it a policy that only E-5’s could be ASDO. No reason, just hey, fuck you PO2’s. The pool of available ASDO watch standers was obviously reduced… a lot! Well, Thanksgiving rolls around, and wouldn’t you know it, I have watch on Thanksgiving Day. In a completely reasonable manner (truthfully, not in any upset kind of way), I approached my duty section leader, an E-6 I knew well, and explained that I had Thanksgiving Day watch the previous year and would like to spend that holiday with my family. I intended to continue my tradition of giving one person the day off on Christmas Day. May I please have my watch switched. His answer was not only no, but fuck you for asking, and then his Chief heard us and told me to go fuck myself to boot… Little did they know that I already had follow-on orders in hand and our Skipper was having rank-by-rank all-hands meetings where we were encouraged to speak respectfully, but openly about our squadron (I can’t remember the term for these meetings). I spent my entire 8-hour watch writing and editing in detail exactly why our squadron had gone down the tubes in the 5 years I had been there, especially if you were an E-5. The short version is that our op-tempo had increased, our deployments were more frequent and longer, the main mission most of us had gone to that squadron for had been voluntarily given away to another squadron so we could spend more time on ships, our leadership had heaped more responsibility on the E-5’s by taking away responsibilities from E-4’s and E-6’s, and our deck leadership weren’t willing to listen to us when we pointed it out (my double Thanksgiving watches a case in point). During that meeting with only our CO and about 20-30 E-5’s the CO asked if anyone wanted to start. I volunteered to go first (I was leaving the squadron in about 3 days!). I stood up with my essay in hand. The Skipper told me I didn’t need to stand. I said, “Sir, I think I should stand for this one.”. I then read my entire essay, which took nearly 30 minutes. At the end the Skipper just stood there like a deer in the headlights. Composed himself, and said, “Does anyone else want to say anything.”. Utter silence. As we filed out, I was complimented by, and every E-5 that passed me stopped to shake my hand. I remembered that lesson when I became an E-6! Long story, but yeah, military shenanigans where they just say, fuck you to the enlisted.

Just before Xmas 1965, I was in a rifle company--G Co 2/2 FMF at Camp LeJeune--when we were called into a company formation so the Bn CO could address us. As usual at the time, all kinds of crap was going on in the world and we knew that we might be called on to deploy at any time. The Col arrived and told us what we already knew. But he continued: No matter where you are, or what you're doing, you're on duty 24 hours a day. If you are recalled to your unit, you are to return immediately (we knew this also); if you fail to return, you'll be court-martialed." Then he and his staff left. Great a "leader" who leads infantry, yet never saw combat in a 20 year war.

@@bcjdwbiernfjherwfbowfib yes, he has no "CAR" (combat action ribbon), so he never has shot at an enemy or has never been blown up. (With the 3+ wars we had these 20 years)

My last tour was being attached to a field artillery battalion where the sergeant major never deployed for the global war on terror. He basically hid in TRADOC and was finally sent to a brigade combat team. Needless to say, he never left the wire, complained about trash, thought he could tell line NCOs how to behave and look, and never cared about the soldiers.
