You're a cool dude, Sean Murphy. I've used the same "blue-collar" analogy to help me get a grip on my own comics career. Not necessarily to set boundaries, but to develop the discipline I need to sit my ass in the chair every day. Anyway, great perspective, great insights. There's a lot to learn from creators like yourself that doesn't always have to do with just the art side of things.

Glad you're enjoying KZbin! Your comments are most welcome. I think many people, including myself, are tired of the polarization and tribalism that is dividing comic book fandom. Everyone is fighting a culture war to the point that they are sucking the life out of the thing they are fighting for. I hope we can get back to the days of 'AGREE TO DISAGREE' and argue about things that matter such as who would win a fight between Hulk and Superman, lol.

So I've just gotten back into comics after 10 years away. I've not got a huge collection, nor a wealth of knowledge. I was excited about getting back into it, but seeing all the negativity around the industry and social media, I was very almost turned off completely. It's great to hear such a down to earth dude just talking about stuff he clearly loves. I thought Batman: White Knight was great and am halfway through Cure of. I've picked up #1-10 of Tokyo Ghost and have pledged on your IGG. I think you've got talent and that has earned my custom. I really hope the best for you and hope you don't get distracted by all the fog surrounding the comic book world. P.S. Would totally grab a beer with you

Hell of a video. I'm glad you're getting more of a handle between artistic expression and the realization that you have to manage customer service. I suffered from panic attacks for over a decade & they started in my late 20's. Like you ...my heart would race & feel like it was going to burst through my chest ...making my fears worst....by imagining I was going to die of a heart attack And I could not get on a plane and didn't... for a very long time.. What really helped me to understand what was going on during a panic attack...and taught me that I could still function and was going to be ok....even during a flown blown panic attack......was reading a terrific & easy to understand book by Dr. Claire Weekes... called "Peace From Nervous Suffering" She teaches the reader what's really going on during a panic attack & how to deal with them and more importantly...how not let your scary thoughts & fears..stop you from doing the things you want...like travelling & getting on a plane..train or automobile.

Sean, not sure if this sounds positive or negative, but I, somewhat randomly, also began to experience panic attacks in my twenties. I suffered them for years and they were offset by things like driving on the highway (not that I was inherently afraid of driving) or being trapped. It was a physical and mental rush that would overcome me, effect my breathing, and make me ultra paranoid. Eventually they just went away. Haven't had what I'd call a "panic attack" in years, and now when that feeling comes along, it is typically only for situations arguably deserving of such panic.

Hi 👋 Love your art and storytelling. Really love how you draw female characters above all. Curious if you do commission art for fans? Also, I've been to a couple Comicons, and it's easy to get nervous in that setting I think, and some are just used to it or something, so they won't be nervous.

I see a difference for responding to direct feedback: You have to do it for your creator owned stuff and you don't have for work for hire! It's as easy than this. I don't get it when "pro's" respond badly to bad comments about work for hire work. This is only hurting themselves, the publisher and their career because the publisher don't want to see online drama from guys he only hired to do some books.

Next time, disable phone notifications. Your last vid made go on a one hour rant. This one will be different. The "don't go see it" part's answer is "I want them to do better because I WANT to give them my money and them doing poorly isn't allowing me to do so. We don't give out 8th place prizes in here."

I have a few slight disagreements. If someone does not want to be held personally accountable for a product...comics are a product, they should not put their name on it. Taking credit for creating something is also taking responsibility for how it does. If Corvette buyers start to notice that cars with engine badges signed by "Dave Smith" are down 75hp from advertised and don't live past 50k miles, well "Dave Smith" signed off on those engines and took responsibility for his work.
@oneslickdude88354 жыл бұрын
Sean after watching your video it sounds like you have a problem the same as I do, you are panicked by crowds. Airplanes are often full and crowded as are conventions, etc. A couple things you can do are breathing exercises to help calm your self or Bring a friend, not a colleague, but a friend who is calming and you are at ease with and has a calming effect when you are around them. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to your Campaign release.

Breaking down your influences and digging deep into characterization. How you love to create and what medium you prefer to do so. As much as drama came be somewhat entertaining, it doesn't further what we all need in this time; escapism.

SEAN PLEASE READ We love you Sean, everything you said is what Comics Gate stands for. I really hope you come join comics gate you will gain so many more fans, and 100% will be more successful. Yes always leave comments, likes and dislikes on. If you dont you channel will die. Some people will hate you no matter what because of tribalism. If you come out as CG you will gain online harassers instantly dont be afraid of them. Other are just trolls, other are your fans or like you and they show it by busting your balls in the comments or chat. EVS gets called fat, and a loser by some of his biggest supporters, and they both have fun with it. Other will be your genuine fans or CG supporters, and will show you love. Just be honest with them they will back what ever you offer. Start doing live streams It will be the biggest, and best thing you can do. Start going on other peoples live streams. EVS, Malin, Cecil, Art Thiebert, Adam Post. War Campaign is good, and are the most passionate fans. I know you are friends with Doug, he has a personal beef with CG, and WC please dont let him hurt your new career. You will also get people who concern troll you. Dont fall into those traps anymore say what you mean if you think some of the editors suck than stand behind it. They will take anything you say and spin it negatively. You have already seen Tess Fowler admit she wants to cancel you. Dont let the "pros" talk you out of anything. We want you on KZbin, and we want you to do a massive crowd funder. Also dont expect your campaign to do 500K keep expectations low. Talk to EVS, and Meyer about how to set up you campaign on Indiegogo, and have them review it before you launch it. It will be almost impossible to stay neutral to all parties so dont worry. I love that your a normal person, and cant wait to see what you do! You can put in a tier for comic shops on your campaign. Also when you crowd fund, and youtube your fans are everything be prepared for that.
