I got back stage in 91 in Spfld MA and I asked the triangle of terror for an autograph. I was 11 and instantly Slaughter said get out of my face you maggot. The iron Sheik fake threatened to hit me and General Adnan was backing them up. It was absolutely hilarious and way more memorable than the autograph would have been.

I always thought that Sgt. Slaughter should have been turned face at the SummerSlam '91 match. The way they could have done it is have Warrior taken out of the match and then Hogan is incapacitated. At that point, Mustapha and Adnan start to light the American flag on fire and then Slaughter, with tears in his eyes, is shocked turns on them (implying that he still had some patriotism inside of him) and then at that point, Hulk is revived, wins the match, and then he and Slaughter celebrate afterwards. The whole "I want my country back" vignettes that occurred weeks later just seemed weak to me. This was a missed opportunity. EDIT: and moreover, this face turn could also be used to retcon why Slaughter had turned to the Iraqi side in the first place: that he did so as a double agent in order to infiltrate the inner workings of Iraq's interests, especially in the world of wrestling.

Warrior was simply asking to be paid for WrestleMania, an event that took place over FOUR MONTHS prior to SummerSlam. Would you be okay with waiting that long to be paid, while your employer continues to not only profit from your work but demands you continue to perform said work? Vince literally "fired" Warrior because Warrior demanded to be fairly compensated for services rendered. As an "independent contractor," Warrior was well within his rights to do so.

The manager comes out and they greet each other by name, lmao . I was like "you knew him this whole time?". I just asked him to call me a "maggot", no autograph, no pictures, none of that. @@liquidsnake6879 A main reason WCW lost the Monday Night Wars was because of the Starrcade 97 match. The fans wanted one thing - Sting to beat Hogan cleanly. And I say that as a Hogan fan BTW. That is all they had to do was have Sting beat Hogan and they could have delivered a one-two finishing combo to the WWF. By f'ing up one of the biggest angles and not giving the fans what they wanted, WCW only pushed fans to the competition since they were tired of the NWO constantly winning every angle and gave Vince enough time.
@bw3230
@bw3230 3 ай бұрын
@@1980Triumph Actually as a Hogan fan I've said that Hogan gets shit on unnecessarily and I have defended Hogan countless times. Especially with Hogan/Andre being the important better WM3 match. However the Starrcade 1997 match basically reversed the tide of the Monday Night Wars. The fans were behind Sting at that time, were tired of the constant NWO bs and the iron was hot. They needed to pull the trigger and have Sting win cleanly. That said if Sting was too drugged up then you have someone else take the title off Sting at a later point. As for Vader - having your number one heel who was over with the fans and could do amazing things in the ring look like a chump against Hogan whose act was stale did no one any favors. Vader was special and not just monster of the month for Hogan to slay. If Hogan played ball and have Vader win one match and look like a complete killer and then Hogan can get the win back later would have made everyone money.

@@bw3230 Ok, you do that, Sting beats Hogan what now? Where do you go from that? The WWF doesn't stop existing the night after, they're still around putting out amazing content and now you have a victorious babyface on top and no real heels left besides the nWo for him to go up against. What do you do now? Keep in mind that in WCW, contracts are fixed, so despite Sting winning Hogan is still the primary reason for your ascension to mainstream fame, your highest paid wrestler for the next few years and him jumping ship to the WWF should you upset him would wreck you overnight

Sgt. Slaughter is one of the all-time greatest wrestlers. And I have to say Sgt. Slaughter is my favorite character of G.I. Joe. It should also be noticed that one of the key reasons why Serpentor is so powerful as the Emperor of Cobra is because Dr. Mindbender used the DNA of St. Slaughter and mixed it with other great leaders and fighters from history. I'm actually surprised the WWF never copied that plan to have someone like Bobby "The Brain" Heenan combine the DNA of great wrestlers such as Sgt. Slaughter, Hulk Hogan, Andre The Giant, The Ultimate Warrior and combine them into one, and then introduce a new wrestler.

Sarge turning was a big deal. Maybe the last big heel turn during a time when the majority of the audience believed it was a shoot. I was new to wrestling then and was outraged alongside every other fan I knew. GI Joe the Movie is one of my all-time favorites. Sarge was incredible in it. Everything he said and did was memorable. Every line quotable. The character in the movie is about as heroic and one can get. Most every kid I knew was a Joe fan. One of the greatest heroes of that time betrayed them. When I saw Sarge vs Warrior live, the heat was just insane. The crowd was incensed. Even The Mountie had a ton of heat. One guy yelling “The Mountie sucks!!” really loud after his music stopped. It was quite something to be part of a crowd that believed wrestling was a shoot. The WWF did a great job of keeping kayfabe back then by doing bit spots for real. The scepter, the snake bite, some stuff with the Funeral Parlor, it was legit so you’d always wonder why they would do this stuff for real if it was fake.

Its another case of Vince lying and getting held up for what he promised. Warrior was supposed to get $2 million to drop the strap against Hogan at Wrestlemania 7 which would have been at the LA Coliseum... and probably sold it out as a Warrior vs. Hogan part 2. Tickets were still being sold for the Coliseum at that point in the Royal Rumble where Warrior dropped the strap to Slaughter. But... the geniuses at WWF in their infinite booking wisdom turned Slaughter into an Iraqi sympathizer trying to draw off some USA USA storyline.... which didnt get over at all and tickets stopped selling at the sports arena limit. I'm surprised Warrior put Sgt. Slaughter over.... he probably did that thinking he'd still be compensated. Wrestlemania 7 = stacked card but everyone should wrestle everyone else. Such bad booking. Another possible match was Actually Hogan vs Greg Valentine ... im serious as a heart attack they had house shows at the long beach sports arena I remember that Summerslam for the IC title match of Bret Hart vs Mr Perfect.

Warrior was the man. In a business where you either sellout to yourself or you play by your own rules he did just that. He wasnt one of the boys and thats ok. Some guys just arent followers. Jim was far from perfect but he did it his way and thats commendable!

That's the thing, Warrior wasn't a boy he was a man because he stood on his own two feet and didn't suffer fools or liars. 'The boys' is almost an insulting demeaning term. I don't know why anyone would want to be referred to as a boy especially if they are over 6' tall and over 230lbs.

Jake the Snake had already lost out on the opportunity to work with Hogan, but he was scheduled to have a run with the Warrior after turning heel by arranging for the Warrior to get snake-bitten (in kayfabe). But he lost the opportunity to work with the Warrior also after the Warrior got fired over this. Apparently, Vince McMahon turned to Jake after the Warrior had been fired and said to him, "You've got the worst goddamn luck!"

It's ironic that a lot of wrestlers who made money because of Hogan's popularity continue to make money off him decades later by talking badly about him....Not so much Sarge, but some of the others. That's how promoters sometimes dealt with unruly wrestlers back in the territory days. Sometimes if a wrestler tried to hold the promoter up at the arena at the last minute, one or two shooters would take the guy in the broom closest or out in the parking lot and straighten him out.
