SH MONSTERARTS HEISEI MECHAGODZILLA AND GARUDA EFFECT SET FIGURES REVIEW

Been a rough week Rangers but I finally got around to doing this highly requested review. In this video, Steve goes over the original S.H. MonsterArts MechaGodzilla, and the Garuda effect set as well. This is based off his appearance in the film Godzilla vs. MechaGoodzilla (1993) from the Heisei era. Please enjoy.

12:26. I've always had this guy on display with that belly accessory on because it resembles the game model from Destroy All Monsters Melee. I plan on buying seconds of some of my Bandai figures and repaint them to resemble the models from the game and put this guy with them.

I see in a lot of Facebook groups, people generally try to sell the old figures for reasonable when new stuff like the Super MechaG comes out.

After re-watching the film, I’d say this Mechagodzilla in terms of paint is more accurate then the new Super Mechagodzilla. It makes sense when this original Mechagodzilla is depicting the first confrontation between Godzilla, evident by the beam base and flight mode setup. The metal was slightly less shiny looking (at least to me) in this scene compared to later in the final battle where Mechagodzilla is repaired and then docks with Garuda. I see the newer Super Mechagodzilla release as a “final battle version” if you will, and the original as a “first battle version” bet eh, that might just be me.

Spee9dy NECA is making one at the moment, so hopefully that will be good. There was an early painted prototype that looked pretty bad, but they seem to have improved it based on fan feedback. From what I've seen of Super Mecha, you don't have to swap stuff out to put him in flight mode. Downside is no beam effects. Super Mecha is next Monsterarts figure im getting. Then Final Battle Kiryu *Kiryu theme intensifies*

The Rainbow beam doesn’t really work well as a plasma grenade beam, though. I’d say use one of those yellow tinted Atomic Breath effects from those Toho Effects sets.

Personally, I stick with this one, because the repainting omits many essential accessories from the original and there are quality control complaints with the new one, such as scratches in the paint and inconsistencies in this.
