Yes, that's the right way to invest. But, there's a reason why most people don't take this approach. The reason is that it requires a lot of skills and a lot of resources that most people don't have, at least it's not very cost-effective. Think about this: why did Warren Buffett miss all the great growth stocks, and instead always invest in the stable "value" ones? Because the growth stocks are tough and risky to analyze. For growth stocks, his approach is easy to say but hard to do, but growth stocks offer much better opportunities during an economic expansion like we are in.
