my chinese teacher showed us this to teach us the alphabet. two questions: what are the two dots above the u and the ^ above the e? she taught us the 5 tones and those weren't included in what we learned. - ' u ` the tones (sorta, i just used keyboard characters) she taught us. the first doesn't change, and it's kind of high. the second goes up. the third goes down and back up, the fourth goes down, the fifth is no tone.

my Chinese teacher also showed us this song the dots above the u means it is a different sound with the normal u your toung is near the front of your mouth with the U with dots you have your toung near the back of your mouth the E with the ^ is also to accommodate a different sound, remember Pinyin was created after the characters and its hard to say if characters even have an alphabet, they made sounds they didn't have to match to Germanic/romantic alphabets
