Have you heard the concert with Hiromi Uehara and Chick Corea playing and improvising "Fool On The Hill"? That performance is a favorite of mine and another played with obvious joy and mastery of piano.

Hats off to Anthony Jackson who kept that groove for 5+mins amidst all that frantic soloing and drumming.
Just came here after listening to Davis & Trane @ Olympia 1960 and I think I finally am beginning to understand Hiromi. She's not playing one instrument but two. Her left brain is like Davis ( cool, driving, melodious) and her right brain is like Trane (crazy improvisational, spiritual, full of emotion). She's just out of this world.
ここ10年で一番感動した演奏 。spirit emotion passion technique dynamism and heart すべてがある‼️

I've seen just about every life performance of Hiromi that I can, and this may be my very favorite. I just keep returning to this and loving the intensity with that off-kilter time, all the better when you add in Simon's awesome drum solo and Jackson's mean, grooving bass. This is just a monster track and a monster performance. This is basically jazz metal played with a piano instead of a guitar.

definately must hear this at least 6 times per year.. favourite track and live from hiromi
I think this is perhaps the single most mesmerizing musical performance I've ever seen! Hiromi plays as though she's possessed by paranormal forces of divine musicality, and the whole band plays with such telepathic tightness and unabashed delight that it fills me with joy to watch it! I'm not religious, but I thank GOD somebody recorded this!

Hiromi, Simon and AJ continue to mesmerize us with the geniuses that they are behind their instrument. The 3 of them together is just incredible. Every song from each of their Trio Project cd's is a masterpiece.

Yes, those three are great, but Zeke is pretty good too.
What a feeling it must have been to be in that small room. The energy is so immense just watching the video. The whole room must have taken off, floating like an UFO.

The piano is the most boss instrument imo. I listen to this while busting out physics problems, musical genius right here folks.

Greatest Hiromi's performance. Volcano of energy + great technique.
Back for the 3rd time today. Just so much wow. I'm assuming Hiromi was raised by a pack of wild pianos and signed enough infernal demon tutor contracts to fill all of the filing cabinets that died on 9/11.

I keep coming back to this video, having been privileged enough to have witnessed her and the trio live. Unforgetable.
Just saw them at the Howard Theater in Washington DC. The level of playing was almost unbearable it was so high and visceral. My wife was blown away because she had never heard them and isn't necessarily a jazz fan like that. She stood in line to get the CD after the show. I love them - although I have to admit one of the primary reasons I want was to see my hero AJ. And on that regard, the show was kind of disappointing. The mix was terrible. I'm on the floor, less than 100 feet from him, directly in front of him and he was so buried in the mix I wanted to choke the sound guy. He was basically outgunned by Simon and Hiromi. But you could still discern the AJ magic! Simon Phillips... jeez what to say? Unparalleled doesn't even begin to describe him. And Hiromi has to have the most advanced rhythmic sense of any pianist I've ever heard. Except for the crappy mix, the show was superb. Anthony looked a little shaky after the gig though.. hoping his health is okay.

Another sound engineer that doesn't understand that the kick should be only as loud as it is in relation to the rest of the drumkit?? Sub woofers kill the feel of the band when the kick is too loud!!! They destroy the gig for me...
@Mudge074 жыл бұрын
Sven Lima he’s SImon not Yukihiro. Listening to a later interview with SP, the pieces are performed with that percussion ensemble as the part of their arrangement. Admittedly I was surprised there wasn’t some screen baffles but that’d stop projection to the other musicians; which means you get the full live sound that is Mr P’s signature sound.

blacjazzz : sorry about the sound guy. I caught them at Blues Alley and they played the room. Great sound and they played the heck out of the music.
@danielbe66982 жыл бұрын
As a sound engineer, that's a tragedy! Especially with only three musicians (although they're taking up a LOT of space). There is a real chance there was some kind of bass cancelling going on beyond the mix itself. It's a bummer when one area loses a lot of bass.
