I can't get behind not knowing the schedule or not being all hands on deck with everything or not wanting to micromanage the set, heck even manage it, you can have assistants for that. But disregarding people's work because you don't feel like working on a particular scene right now is just wrong.

On the subject of Pitt wondering why he was asked to express more emotion in a scene where only the back of his head was in shot... I've heard many actors say that you should always be present in the scene. Not just as a courtesy to your fellow actors but primarily because your acting, even if unseen, benefits the other's performance. Sean Astin spoke of it on a Lord of The Rings reunion at a convention, and I'm sure I've heard Michael Caine say it also when he has spoken about the craft of screen acting. so, yea. Liman was right.

Jon Favreau wrote Swingers with the intention of directing it. Trying to raise funding, he eventually met Doug Liman who agreed to fully fund the $250,000 needed, with the money coming from his Dad. What Favreau didn't realise was, Liman would only give them the money if he was directing.

I'm going to guess that the Rotten Tomatoes audience score was low due to the real world backlash of the Pitt/Aniston breakup and perceived infidelity. I remember Chelsea Handler eviscerating Brangelina on her show...such a crazy time.

I have the two disc unrated cut of the movie, so here are some tidbits: An alternate opening showing Brad Pitt on a mission taking out some terrorists in a nighttime, snowy setting. In addition to the alternate ending with the Smiths in a Latin American country with their kid, there was another that was scripted, never shot, that had them casually walking away from a dinner date on a boat with another couple they met. The boat blows up, but the lead up had the Smiths laughing, talking like it was a normal evening. Adam Brody would've had more screen time if they left in scenes of his character telling a pretty, single woman the events of the movie. There were quite a bit more extended and alternate scenes also on the DVD. It really lends itself to showing the creative, unfocused madness of Doug Liman. Still, it is among my favorite movies, and it also gave me my final words that I'll say when the moment comes: "The new curtains are hideous."
@maxreardon1149

I haven’t laughed this consistently hard in a while and I love you guys so much. I watched this movie probably when I was around 10 when it came out and that’s probably why I do like it so much cause it has good action and even though the adult humor wasn’t my thing obviously there was other broader jokes that I enjoyed. The sort of theme song, the tango one, was always something I loved listening to along with the actual theme song. So this is still one of my favorite action spy movies today. I can see the flaws but it’s just good fun and I’m all for it.

The quote by Liman at 1:10:00 would come off way different under many different circumstances. If it was someone nice and attentive trying out new techniques and styles on their first major film, the quote would come off as nothing is a mistake if it works. But with Liman it is like any behavior (no matter who it affects) can be justified

Ever thought about doing a Sh*t Show Podcast about _The Island of Dr. Moreau_ from 1996 starring Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer? Or do you think the 2014 documentary _Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau_ already covers all the sh*t show-ish stuff there is to cover? To entice you, let me give you a little quote from Richard Stanley: _"I then made another strategic error. I met Val Kilmer."_ The documentary is really great, in my opinion. There's no narration, it's just people who were involved with the movie talking and telling their part and point of view. Extras, actors, producers, New Line Cinema founder Robert Shaye, and of course Richard Stanley, small Indie film director from London, the movie's script writer and director. Until he got fired halfway through and was replaced with John Frankenheimer, but Richard's journey does not end there. There are some amazing little stories and quotes in the documentary.

My honest opinion of this movie... Great premise, fun introduction, but the end just fizzled. Mr. And Mrs. Smith along with In Time goes down as a movie that could have been good or even great. My favorite part of the movie is when Brad Pitt finds out that Jolie brought fake parents to their wedding and when she finds out he was married before.

This was a sh*t show. Just sounds like Entertainment journalists trashing on a director. Maybe some films are good (not this one) because the director looks at what they've got and decides it's not good enough. Maybe the fact that they stopped the director changing things is why this film is sub-par. It's funny how when the film is good it was "because it was a team effort" but when it's less good, like this film, it was because of the director, despite all the instances mentioned where the director was overruled by the studio. If you want generic unoriginal movies, like what we mostly have now, then get reliable and boring committee friendly directors. I get that picky directors are annoying, but many of the best films are by picky directors. Not Liman - I think he's no higher than B list - but at least he's not just dialing it in. Also, the constant "hey look at me I know something about making films" flexing is cringe.
