8/3/24 ( Friday ) 3.28 pm. Perhaps the commentator, Mr Shi didn't know at that time that Singapore is going to replace upgraded F16 jets with F35 A/B. Else he would not have compared F16 between Singapore and Taiwan.

Agreed. Also, Singapore's F16 is Block 50/52+ which is almost the same as the Israeli F16 (except the avionics and firing control system is all replaced by Israeli equipment). Taiwan's F16 is Block 20 which is a slight changes to the old Block 15. Taiwan's F16 is a decade older than the Singapore's F16 and less capable then ours Singapore version. Just a shame to Taiwan

@@MrNicholas89 I wondered, just thinking. Once the replacement is finished, would Singapore donate its F16 to Ukraine through 3rd party like USA ?
@MrNicholas897 ай бұрын
@@DreamyCheshire-up9rf Not possible as the supply chain between the F16s that Ukraine has vs Singapore F16s is complex. Difference in powerplant and Singapore has to detune the F16s (Due to sensitive avionics and guidance system from Israel). Will take up more time and cost.

*** @@DreamyCheshire-up9rf The decommissioning and disposal process for these systems must adhere to the established governmental guidelines and protocols. As these assets underwent significant customization by firms like Israel Aerospace Industries, Lockheed Martin, and ST Aerospace/Kinetic to meet SG unique operational requirements, they incorporate proprietary modifications that necessitate specialized handling during the retirement phase.

*** @@MrNicholas89 Yes, agree. In fact, the current Retrofit project to upgrade aged TW F-16 A/B Block 20 x 141 unit to "F-16 A/B Block V" but back to year 1997 engines AS IS. The F-16A/B Block 20 was initially powered by the F100-PW-200 turbofan, rated at 12,240 lb.s.t. dry, 14,670 lb.s.t. full military, and 23,830 lb.s.t. with afterburning. Production F-16s have the standard ACES II ejection seats. Block 20 The 150 F-16A/B Block 15OCU's for Taiwan are built to MLU standards and are designated Block 20. The Block 20 designation was reserved in the 1980's. It was later assigned to the Taiwanese aircraft
He mentioned Singapore F16 could detect enemy jet's rader, while Taiwan present F16 jets could not. As for F16V, I doubt USA have delivered the planes to Taiwan.

@@DreamyCheshire-up9rf Yes, Waiting for year 2026 - F-16 C/D Block 70 (AKA F-16V). The retrofit program for the current F-16 A/B Block 20 to F-16 A/B Block V is upgrading ones only.
Yes, targeting to retire F-16s and replaced by New F-35A & F-35B soon + existing F-15SG as endorsed by MINDEF, Feb 2024 here. The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) is acquiring eight new F-35As, in addition to 12 F-35Bs which have been bought and announced previously. Designed for greater endurance and the ability to carry payloads of higher capacity, the F-35A variant will complement the F-35B's short take-off and vertical landing capability to provide greater operational flexibility in land-scarce Singapore. These new fighter jets will "replace the Republic of Singapore Air Force's (RSAF's) F-16s", which will be drawn down progressively from the mid-2030s, said Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen during the Committee of Supply Debate on the defence budget in Parliament on 28 Feb.
