From Rav Pinson's book/Sefer "The Spiral of Time" The seven Double Letters represent the seven observable planets. Beis is connected with Saturn, Gimel to Jupiter, Dalet to Mars, Chaf to the Sun, Pei to Venus, Reish to Mercury, and Tav with the Moon. The more distant planets which are not visible to the naked eye, such as Uranus, Pluto, and Neptune are considered to have little astrological influence. ב (Beis) - Saturn ג (Gimel) - Jupiter ד (Dalet) - Mars כ (Chaf) - Sun פ (Pei) - Venus ר (Reish) - Mercury ת (Tav ) - Moon Each of the twelve months of the year are ‘ruled’ by one of these seven planets, and are thus connected with one of the seven Double Letters. Therefore, a month that is ruled by Saturn is also connected with the letter Beis. The seven planets mentioned are also connected with the seven days of the week. In the English language are remnants of the ancient Greco-Roman paradigm: Sunday is connected with the sun (Sun-day), Monday is connected with the moon (Moon-day), and Saturday is connected with Saturn (Saturn-day). This is because during the first hour on Sunday the sun is dominant, during the first hour of Monday the moon is dominant, and during the first hour of Saturday, Saturn is dominant. In other languages, such as French, the other days of the week are also named after the planets: Tuesday is called Mardi, from the planet Mars, and Wednesday is Mercredi as in Mercury, Thursday is called Jeudi from the planet Jupiter, and Friday is called Vendredi from Venus. In Sefer Yetzirah (Chapter 4, Mishnah 8-14) however, the correlations of the days of the week to the planets are as follows: Sunday - Moon Monday - Mars Tuesday - Sun Wednesday - Venus Thursday - Mercury Friday - Saturn Shabbos - Jupiter On another level of detail, every hour of each day is ruled, so to speak, by one of the seven planets. This idea has practical implications, such as the custom to not recite Kiddush on Friday evening over red wine when the dominant planetary influence is Ma’adim / Mars, the red sign (Magen Avraham, Orach Chayim 271:1. Maharsha on Taanis 8b). Nevertheless, the so called rule of the planets is generally more impactful upon the animal kingdom than upon human beings (Tiferes Yonason, Parshas Emor. See also Ibid, Parshas Mishpatim, regarding slaves).
