Hello, I'm fairly new to sewing. Your video has inspired me. I do have 2 questions. 1. Do you have a previous video that will show us how to hand sew thick fabrics? I have moderate to sever arthritis in my hands. Any needle assistants you may know about I would appreciate any ideas you may have. The top point and the tree skirt will need to be done by hand. Unless there a tool to help push a needle I don't know if I can do any hand sewing. 2. I have a Brother 2700 machine. Do I have to quilt the trees? I'm a new sewer. I have no idea about quilting Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 5 жыл бұрын
Hello, I would use a metal thimble to push the needle through the fabrics. Yes, the trees need to be quilted, otherwise the batting shrinks and the fabric does not. Any type of simple quilting will work on these, so have fun! Happy Quilting! ~ Tammy

Hi Lisa! We'd love to help guide you with this! It may be preferable to message us through Facebook or Instagram so you can show us what you're working with. Since we do not know which methods you have tried, we would like to suggest using a curved/upholstery needle and either a hand quilting thread or you can use two strands of a 50wt. How can it be stitched to the bottom when the tree is not flat with the tree bottom???

The pattern probably has further instructions on the hand stitching.

The pattern tells you how to hand stitch it to the bottom. It won't be completely flat, but it will stand up! - Morgan

Oh wow❣️great tutorial. I bought some shrinking batting about 10 years ago and hadn’t found anything I liked enough to use it. I forgot I had it ☺️ thanks for the jolt to my memory 😛 this is worth pulling it out. Now I need a reminder as to where I put it 🤷‍♀️

I used freezer paper to make my template. The I iron the freezer paper to the fabric. When sewing the trees together, I found my trees did not match at the bottom and it did not sit straight. The next time, I will start at the bottom,

Tammy, love this pattern. I got all the way through up to sewing all 5 together. I have a Janome 9400 and it won’t go through the layers! You say to hand sew it, not sure how to do that. Any tips for me getting through these layers by hand? Thanks Kari

We would recommend using a heavy duty denim/ jean needle, that would be able to puncture all layers. -Kyla

Love this, is this pattern available in uk? or do you have it as a PDF that we can purchase and download because the postal service to uk is very expensive. . Hoping we can get that great batting as the trees look great. Thank you for the video.

Isn't that such a great song? Our video person uses music from a specific website, so I don't know if you'll be able to find it anywhere, but it's called "Home for Christmas" from the album Jolly Season - Home for the Holidays.

Could we just sew them with batting on each piece, turn them and add poly fill to make a puffy pudgy tree instead of the way you are showing? I remember puffy trees from a long time ago.
@ShabbyFabrics

That would probably work! We haven't tried it so we can't be sure, but let us know if you try it and how they turn out! We remember the puffy trees, too! - Morgan
