Thank you for your review. I am now third way through. Slowly getting into it. Loving the unique take on the society and the world building. This is my first book by this author. I had to ask some questions in a fb book group after about first 12 pages as I couldn't go past mental reading block about how they are supposed to see the synthetic colours in the colour garden even though they don't see it naturally. (Got the answers I was satisfied with to continue reading further.)

That's a very interesting point, I hadn't considered that! I hope you enjoy the rest of it 😊

One thing I didn’t understand is how they could see others colored dots when they can only perceive one color. 🤔

That is a very good point that never occurred to me 😆

@@redheadreading I read that when it comes to natural vision, they could only see one (maybe two) shades. But everyone could see synthetic colors which is why it cost so much. There's some type of technology but I'm not sure. It wasn't mentioned enough. I might have to listen/re-read the first one. I'm listening to the second one now and hoping he'll mention it again.

I'm sure I will! I've read the first two Thursday Next books and also I once got to sit at Fforde's old desk ^_^

Whaaaaaat that's so cool! How did you manage that? I really need to pick the Thursday Next series back up. Really enjoyed the first one, but haven't gotten my hands on any more yet!

I found the first five books in a charity shop so I got them for a steal :D And his desk was at The Story Museum in Oxford where I went on a little weekend break!

So my wife is a massive Jasper Fforde fan and I tried to get into the Thursday Next Series but, I just couldn't. I mean I thought his originality is top notch but, for some reason I just couldn't get behind the characters. It's a pity because I just loved the concept of this saga.

Whilst I enjoyed the first Thursday Next book, I can definitely understand where you're coming from. I've previously read his Dragonslayer series, and I struggled to connect with the first two books that much, but then the third one was so good that it made me pick up Shades of Grey on a whim!

Hmmm...maybe I will read the third book in the series at some point...but, it's gonna have to wait. I am in the middle of reading a book called Unbreakable which is the 3rd book in a trilogy by fellow BookTuber and friend Sara Ella. Then I am going back to reading The Dark Tower series by Stephen King with Book 4.

Ooh interesting! I've not read The Dark Tower series but have obvs heard a lot of good things about it. I read Carrie for the first time last year and loved that! Although I've heard they're very different styles.

Yea the books are a slow burn as most of King's works are but, very atmospheric. This series however is so original and outlandish it is very hard to turn away from a story like this.
