Music and poem recount the glory of Lord Rama……
A worship of Rama, this beautiful piece in Raga Hamsanadam starts with a padyam from ‘Dasarathi Satakam’, a collection of 104 poems on Lord Rama written by Bhadrachala Ramadasa. The padyam extols Rama’s noble traits, his might, which is praised in the three worlds. The free flowing improvisational style of the padyam gives way to the kriti, Kalyanarama, a Sri Oothukaadu Venkatasubbaiyyar composition set in Adi talam. The kriti talks about the resplendence of Lord Rama as Sita's groom, dressed in flowers and finery with Sita by his side; all the great sages like Gautama and Vashishtha worshipping him; and everyone praying for his wellbeing. The beautifully set vilambakala or slow tempo of the Kriti enhances the lyrics creating a mood of joyous devotion. Several rounds of kalpana swaras by the musicians showcase the intricacies of the raga and of laya or rhythm.
Sindhuja Bhakthavatsalam (Vocal), Kamaladeepthi Vempati (Vocal), Shravan Kumar Ramani (Vocal), Praphul Pemmaraju (Vocal), Kavitha Jayaraman (Veena) and Ananth Kumar (Mridangam) come together as a team to perform this beautiful devout kriti.

This rendition absolutely brings the Sahitya to life! An example would be at 4:34: "...Aupavahya Skanda Deshaalankrita Haimasimhaasana Sthitha..." This excellent rendition brings to life before my eyes the grandeur of Rama, decorated with jewels that shine simply because they are fortunate enough to adorn him. The bhaava is so clear, I can imagine the awestruck feeling of seeing Rama bedecked in jewels, seated resplendent and majestic upon a golden throne as he is described in this absolutely excellent song. And what comes immediately after paints an even more awe-inspiring picture worthy of constant devotion and surrender: "Aagatha Suravara Munijana Sanchara Aganitha Janagana Ghoshitha Mangala.." The way the above is sung, the emphases, and the sheer aptness of this Raaga for this Sahitya...it truly causes the hair to stand on end when one visualises the exalted Sabha that glorifies the Lord, with this rendition playing in the background. What a brilliant group, and such talented artistes. A privilege to have heard this.

After a hectic day had a soothing relief to mind and body and a relaxing relief with the musicians singing the kriti. And the way they co ordinated and the effects of veena was awesome. Only at the end felt the sound of veena was more echoing than the voices of the singers but then the end went so well.
