My only complaint was that the SHADO interceptors were each armed with only one missile. What was _that_ about? The old "one and done" saying turned on its head. "Ohh. I've shot my one missile, and I've missed. Might as well just return to base for a scone and a nice cuppa." 😉

@@hlcepeda Technically, they were also equipped with three 20mm guns just forward of the cockpit (assuming the Dinky I still have is accurate,) through I don't believe they were ever used on screen. Considering the speed delta, and that targets were beyond visual range, it would be like trying to shoot at supersonic aircraft from behind. (Search engines can offer photos; have a look at the "bonnet" of each Interceptor.) The missiles were a stand-off weapon (and would have had a potential radiation hazard as they were atomic.) The guidance and propulsion technology we have today was not available in 1980, and that the best they could do would have required a fairing on par with a Tomahawk missile (a 1970s product not too far removed from what we see.) So, considering the time when the show was set, I'd be hard-pressed to call it unlikely or entirely unbelievable. Also... gerryanderson dot com/science-ufo-interceptor/

@@redwolfexr Which means it's only on the side we ever saw; on the other side, they'd have to do it upside-down, or the words would be on the wrong vehicle. Only bit of (hopefully constructive) criticism I'd offer is that we should have seen parting lines and rivets on the aircraft section (circa 6:46-7:06) otherwise, you'd have to machine it from a single ingot of material! Very pleased to finally see a reconnect, though. Considering it's shown as done without mechanical aid, I'd add that it's not unreasonable to show the reconnect happening at greater depth, either; less Brownian motion in the liquid medium the farther down you go. Such a manoeuvre could possibly be handled by computer...but not in 1980.

In retrospect, one thing that really stands out for me regarding UFO and Space 1999 is the LOOK of the shows, the 'futuristic fashions,' the visuals. That, and the music: It was kinda 'hip.' I remember seeing an interview with Barry Morse (Professor Victor Bergman in Space 1999) where he bemoaned the fact that the powers that be were more interested in the 'look' of the show than having good storylines. My brother and I--even though we enjoyed it!--would laugh our way through many of the shows: It seemed that Commander König got it KILLED at least once every few episodes. And he never dwelled on it, pondered the meaning of life. No one did, they just went on, business as usual...I guess that's the English way, stiff upper lip and all that rot! 😂

I enjoyed this sci-fi show a lot. It showed what the Brits could do when they let their imaginations get into high gear and were willing to take the chance. SHADO's space and moon defenses were rather very thin. Only three space interceptors? Just one moon surface, self-propelled, surface-to-space rocket tracked armored vehicle? There should have been many more space interceptors. Ground defenses should have been far more than one armored rocket vehicle. Of course, I understand the budgetary limitations of the show's prop department. The alien space saucers were cool, indeed. According to fan magazines, these were rather small, compact interstellar vehicles, powered by nuclear fusion engines which took up most of the interior space. As a result, crew space was limited and you only saw perhaps at most two aliens from one spaceship. The alien's space craft relied on the coldness of space to cool its nuclear fusion engine. It would soon overheat on Earth's surface and explode. But the aliens learned quickly to park their space craft under water where the nuclear engines could be cooled. Interstellar travel at light speed and more proved hard on the body as the aliens knew. They had to use breathing liquid to fill the lungs to prevent collapse from the great speeds of the craft. Hard contact lenses protected the eyeballs from the harsh effects of flying at such terrific ultra-light speeds. This may be pseudo-science but the tv show is science fiction after all. Lastly, all the fans laughed at the terrible accuracy of the aliens' space craft laser weaponry. Despite their advanced superior technology, it did not extend to target acquisition, aiming, and firing systems. The aliens' space vessels missed far more often than they hit with their powerful, phaser-like beams. The hostile aliens mysteriously used machine guns which actually used bullet cartridges. They had not discovered hand-held, directed energy weapons yet.

Saw this show originally in black and white with marginal reception..ie deep fringe and snow on a 13 inch TV with a roof top homemade antenna and a winegard preamp. Ie rotate the antenna to get some oddball show at midnight in a city farther than Pluto..lol The music was cool and the cool cars etc..the show seemed then sort of weird since the details were lost in the terrible reception and no colors. The 1st time I saw this series in color was in New Zealand in 1991. Not sure it was on channel 1 or 2. Lol. New Zealand TVs had 2 push buttons one for each channel..the rage then was rent video tapes. Both space 1999 and UFO 🛸 I never saw in color until being in New Zealand. Not really sure how many younger folks understand why such outlandish colors and blinking lights etc in Sci Fi was purposely created to make a black and white viewer see cool stuff.

Much too unsettling . Why dolls any way. Oh and the fat women. 2:31 Dolores Mantez. Also appeared in one or two episodes of _Danger Man_ several years earlier. Had a major part in the “Sub-Smash” episode of _UFO_ . Gave up acting when her son was born.

One of the other girls ended up in the adult film industry. I dont recall her name, but I think she was only in the first half dozen episodes or so

Okay, did I see correctly?: An underwater fighter jet named 'SKYDIVER' that can produce engine SMOKE and flames underwater...eh, sounds about right!😅 I don't remember some of this stuff from the show, but seeing it now is satisfying.

I love the opening with people smoking in a room full of antiquated computer peripherals. I can imagen someone doing that IRL, getting yelled at and throw out of the room, maybe losing their job for such a bonehead move.

This show is straight out of my childhood. That catchy theme music is still stuck in my head after all these years. I dont remember Ever seeing Sky One redocking with the Sub. Nice bit of CGI there.

Not CGI. Models.

TeenerTim That part with the redocking sequence was never in the original show. They never showed Sky One returning to the Sub. That was done in more modern times with CGI. It was too clean. (CGI Models!) Pretty much everything else was from the original show. Physical models.

@@DocMicrowave Exactly. That's why I always wondered about it. The fan CGI is ok, but is it canon?
