We observed the 2023-04-20 total Solar eclipse from Learmonth, Exmouth, WA, Australia, at location 114.0864 E ,22.1257 S, i.e. on the eclipse viewing site near Kailis Road.
I did not see shadow bands (I prefer to call them flying shadows). I filmed during the eclipse, and the video shown here enhances the temporal differences in illumination of the original film by a factor of 8. Some people claimed that they saw the shadow bands during the eclipse and that they looked very much like the ones you can see here. It is my first total solar eclipse where I did not see the shadow bands myself, and the contrast with the very prominent shadow bands in Argentina in 2019 is striking ( • Flying shadows (shadow... ). I can see two reasons why the shadow bands were so faint in 2023. The first is the high elevation of the Sun in the sky, 54 degrees, so that the path of the sunrays through the atmosphere is rather short. The second may be that it was a short eclipse, the totality being just over 1 minute, such that the diamond ring is less punctual but more elongated.
Many thanks to Urania for organising the trip and Erwin Boffé, our guide in particular. Thanks also to the local authorities who organised a very beautiful eclipse observing site.
