Shadow Pokémon were introduced in Pokémon Colosseum created by Cipher out of stolen Pokémon provided by Team Snagem using special Snag Balls. The protagonists of both Colosseum and Gale of Darkness use these Snag Balls to steal the Pokémon back so they can be purified. As far as I am aware these two games are the *only games* with a ball where the player can steal Pokémon from other trainers.

As someone who did play both this and Pokemon Colosseum as a kid, these games definitely live up to their reputation as some of the darkest and most unique Pokemon games out there. Shame they never made a third one since this game did end on something of a sequel hook that was never followed up on. Basically, Greevil and the red-haired guy (Eldes) decide to turn themselves in while the blue-haired guy (Ardos) goes all "Fuck it, I'll do it myself!" and escapes on his own. Shame she didn't touch on Miror B. much though, because he is unironically the best thing to come out of these games. XD

I get that Jaiden played certain things up for jokes and drama, but since you did ask in one case, I'd like to elaborate on a few things: (1) No one was looking for Jovi, because they didn't actually know she was missing; it's not until you scour the whole lab that you realize she isn't there (2) Vander didn't just "stumble" on the Cipher Lab, it's the same one they used during Colosseum. In particular, he works for Mt. Battle, and they were directly attacked by Cipher during the first game... so they've been keeping an eye on it ever since - especially since Prof. Krane and others seemed to know Cipher was active again (3) Justy knowing the location of the S.S. Libra might be a bit odd, but given his status as a powerful trainer - which is why the mayor wrote that letter - and that he was involved in the first game, it only seems logical that he would be alert for rising Cipher activity; I believe he specifically mentions seeing vehicles frequently heading to and from that location. Not to mention it's a culmination of MANY eye witnesses, not just him (4) The man on the S.S. Libra just points in the direction that Team Snagem ran, he does the give their exact location. And even if he had, a lot of people would know where their base was anyway, because it was all over the news when Wes bombed it during the first game lol Not to complain or anything, it just feels a little odd to make jokes at the expense of the game's narrative, when these things ARE properly explained. Regardless, this was a very fun video and I love Jaiden's work; I just wanted to provide some insight. They put a lot more thought into the story than the video makes it seem

So just for the record, Shadow Pokemon are basically rabid animals that throw everything into vicious combat. Meaning they are stronger in battle, but also will attack anyone they can and are basically forced to be insane.

Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness actually takes place in the Orre region, which originally had no wild Pokemon at all, but they slowly start showing up, so you were onto something about the whole Pokemon getting extinct thought.

He was there to be the scapegoat if someone discovered Cipher was in Phenac. The plan didn't work out so well with the discovery of the mayor's letter somehow sending a signal to all the Cipher grunts to open hostilities with the 10-year old with the snag machine.

Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness is the sequel to Pokemon Colosseum, and both games really make their intros count. You saw one here, but in Colosseum, you start the game by quitting Team Snagem... by blowing up their base as your resignation letter.

Pokemon Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness were 2 of my favorite Nintendo GameCube games, and were one of my first introductions to the Pokemon franchise. Regarding the Shadow Lugia, in order to purify it, you need 9 perfect tempos from the purification chamber in the research lab. (It's the only way to purify it.) While I did enjoy both games, XD is my favorite between the 2.

I highly, HIGHLY recommend watching JelloApocalipse's "Pokemon Colosseum: Dogs In Love" video. It's a heavily abridged edit of their run of Pokemon Colosseum (XD's prequel) and it is absolutely hilarious. It'd be a great way to further experience the two Gamecube 3D Pokemon games.

Pokemon Coliseum is 100% the better of the two games imo, but XD is still pretty darn great. It is also factually accurate to say that Miror B's theme in XD is one of if not the best battle theme in all of Pokemon. It's a shame, because they've done literally nothing with this style of game or the characters in it since 2005.

I think XD is the better game namely due to Colosseum being 4 hours for an experienced player, but XD is at least 12 hours for an experienced player. I think Colosseum is definitely good but XD is the better of the two, not only is it longer, it's MUCH darker.

Because this video is a funny recap but also creating a non-existant issue, the npcs actually do give explanations of how they know where things are. It's funny how many people I've seen say they love this game but also claim the npcs randomly know where stuff is.

5:35 That’s one way of looking at it. Shadow Pokémon have a unique set of Shadow-Type moves (obviously), which are always super effective against non-Shadow Pokémon. So, most of the time, Shadow Pokémon have a type advantage against you. So, yeah. They tend to be pretty strong and dangerous. 8:21 When you get a chance, go listen to Miror B’s themes from both XD and Colosseum. They’re both seriously good.

In addition, Shadow pokemon have their own special moves that only they know and are in-universe stated to be violent enough to attack opposing trainers. In-game that doesn't happen if you lose of course. I also think it's worth mentioning that the downside of shadow pokemon is that sometimes they will ignore your orders and do their own thing and they don't gain levels. They still gain experience, but they don't level up. So when you purify them, all the experience is considered active and they gain the levels they should have accumulated.

Pokemon Colosseum and Gale of Darkness are some personal favorites among the player community. Myself included, though I did better with Gale of Darkness since that was the first Gen 3 game I played, an introduction to Pokemon from Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. They're both a real step up from the usual games, in terms of difficulty, as you could probably tell from bosses and the final boss. The biggest challenge was the setting's very significant lack of wild Pokemon for you to catch, which Gale of Darkness partially fixed in such an amount of time. So, all the Shadow Pokemon you encounter? Those are the only ones you can catch, your best bet to stand a chance in battles.

I remember playing this game during my youth and it was a fun experience game for my first Pokémon game for systems. 😄 I wish to play it again, but it is so expensive to buy for GameCube now around 50 dollars. Last time I play it was my cousin’s version and couple years later. My littlest cousin scratch the game so much it won’t work because of not playing it.

Before anyone comes in and says that the hero of Colosseum was going to be the villain of XD, that was only ever a fan suspicion and has never been traced to an official source. Though Wes having a relapse would be interesting to explore in a fanfic or something. "I thought Lugia was good" Pokémon are species, even legendaries, and have individual morality. Most legendaries tend to be rather neutral rather than good or evil though. What's really funny is that the concept of brainwashed pokémon more or less came from the 4th movie.

XD and Colosseum are awesome GameCube games. They are one of the oldest games you can transfer a Pokémon all the way to the current games. I'm trying to get a shiny in Colosseum as ribbon collection, it been 8 months

I actually still own this game and the special edition GameCube it came with, the thing still works and I once stayed up about 31 hours to complete every single gel detail in the game. No breaks or nothing, stored up plenty of snacks and water too. Tired as hell, but worth it.

Anyway setting aside my never ending crusade to make my human body consist of 10% normal human fluids and the other 90% being MHA….Pokémon XD I played as a kid a VERYYYYY long time ago. It was cute. I never beat it, but I’ll NEVER forget the the prancy Afro dude and his chubby boss. Even though I’m fairly sure that’s the prequel to this game and not this game. So let’s just say me like Pokémon and I always use Electivire. Every playthrough since his intro. And this was before then. So chances are I don’t have memories outside gen 3. And most of my gen 3 experience now is ORAS.

ya know... i love (the idea) of jaiden and ALL of her videos are gold... but one that i personally love and has actually help me reevaluate my life was/is her 'Things about Relationships I wish someone told me about' vid... even with its heavy topic and subject matter it still has plenty of laughs to be had, and a lot of people seem to skip over it. she makes some really good points and my main take away at the time was 'im not in high school anymore. why am i playing high school games to make others happy when i deserve to be happy too'... no matter how you interpret the vid the lesson is still a good one to learn, plus again, its jaiden so its funny.

So the Snag Machine first debuted in Pokémon Colosseum, the game before this one. It was originally owned by a band of criminals called Team Snag Em, whom we meet later in this game, and has the power to steal Pokémon and their pokeballs from other people and make them yours. In Colosseum you play as Wes, a 17 year old who steals the snag machine because he’s also a criminal and an arsonist and the insert videogame hijinks, purify shadow Pokémon, cue credits These games also take place in the Orre Region, based on Arizona. The Orre Region is never brought up in the Mainline games, ever. Also it seems like you might have talked over the bit at the end where Shadow Pokémon are explained, basically Shadow Type is its own thing with its own moves that are super effective against Everything that isn’t Shadow. The downside of owning a Shadow Pokémon includes a limited movepool, sometimes they refuse to listen to you, and other stuff.

They wanted a game featuring a protagonist relative to the age of the original players, so they went with a seven year time skip to match the kids who were now young adults or old teens.
