I've been using a few of your techniques lately in the salon and my blonding services have 1) gotten faster and 2) been coming out better!! I've been out of school and in a salon for almost two years and a half now but didn't really work in a busy salon until November of last year and watch your videos has made me become a lot more confident in myself and my work and I love the price break down because I find myself, when it comes to pricing feeling bad and cheating myself for charging a lot for hours and hours of work to where I did 6 hours of work and only charged $250. So I really do appreciate it seeing it and it being explained! Thank you!

I'm so glad you feel the need to break down price! It definitely isn't brought up often enough in the KZbin hair videos so clients that watch these hair tutorials and videos think it's just simply under 200 for this amount of work and effort is crazy! Thanks for the detailed info and video!

Brilliant steps broken down! I LOVE 💕LOVE the breakdown of pricing and the realness! ( back room talk it through to self!). Way to open up the reality and YES GIRL- raise those prices! You’re really worth it! I wish I regulated that during my hairdressing career better- now that I’m semi-retired- looking back ... yep! My body pains are worth it enough!

I appreciate you talking about pricing and timing. The way we do hair 2day is so much more involved than it was 10+ yrs ago. Its hard getting that thru to the front desk at times because they have no clue what some of these services take. Let alone online booking. The receptionist's be like, "I gave you plenty of time (2 1/2 hrs total)." Meanwhile they have more hair than 10 ppl combined, long and they want it as blond as possible. It's so frustrating.

You did such a great job! Your client had a lot of hair and also very long hair so that added to the time. In the end I hope the client was happy. Yes, $450 is undercharge. I’d say $600 would’ve been fair. You used a lot more products and it took you extra time because of her long and thick hair. Thank you for sharing your experience.

In fact, I challenge you to skip all the pricing and join the tribe of a straight hourly rate charge.....PEROID! The last 5+ years of color techniques makes it Nearly IMPOSSIBLE to forecast what will be needed in steps, product and time. Shoot for $115 an hour for all your services. You my dear are WORTH it!

Thanks for all the tips. It turned out really pretty and I appreciate your videos. I bought the Wow comb but the handle snapped off the first time I used it. The teeth are much wider than a regular comb, and I feel like it worked pretty good before it snapped (without much tension btw). It broke right where the handle connects to the comb, so now the roller falls straight out and it's useless. I don't know if I just got a dud, but I kinda think its overrated. I didnt achieve a different result than I did with a regular comb.

Yes, talk price and time. Beautiful job!! I have had “go rounds” with receptionist and coworkers in the past, who believe that charging for a toner is being greedy! One receptionist even argued that it’s not their fault they need a toner. Well it certainly isn’t mine. Id be happy to give them a color that didn’t need toner. But, it’s not the color they want! Clients need to be educated. Thank you!!!!More time, more product= more money.

@hairbyKristiJennings Beautiful color! I found your page looking for ideas for my own hair, and this came out gorgeous. Love how thick and healthy her hair is and the color is so complimentary. I love dimensions and lows / highs. I also have been steering away from being all over blondet tones to putting icier blonde, with warmer mid and deeper browns with VB red mixed in. She did level and 2/3 I think (but the 2 is too dark and looks almost black indoors but you can see that luscious red outside) and when I curl it. I want to do something similar to what we did but I am not sure if I will get that same red if she goes lighter on the brown level. Any thoughts. I think the salon uses L'Oreal colors and another brand. My natural color is more of a or 5 / 6. Do you have any suggestions on how to get the same red without having to go to level 2 /3 with VBR? I know she went deep to keep it from fading since reds are difficult. This summer she did use the same red to touch up the roots and it is not the color I want all over in my low lights, it is too light and not that deep cherry. Thanks L

For that service, for that amount of detail to all the hairs NOT in foils... dang, that's a pretty sweet deal!! I would honestly pay double that amount if I had that service, so never apologize for talking about it... my sister does hair, and it irritates me so much when she spends HOURS on a client, and then only charges them the basic fee, like, especially if they had previous color and she ended up having to go over it again, or whatever else, etc, she just doesn't charge enough, and I know other hair dressers who just don't charge enough, and it's like, really annoying to me when I joined a facebook group for blonde enthusiasts, and saw so many people complaining about their having cost so much, like do they seriously think that someone standing for 6 hours and moving all around your hair, basically painting a masterpiece, isn't worth at least 100/hr ???? AT LEAST... I know location matters, so small town USA might not charge that much, but I see people in LA complaining about a full lightening service costing over 200... I'm just like... *eye roll* Sorry for the rant... I just had to get that off my chest. I just hate seeing stylists rubbing their sore backs and necks after HOURS of meticulous work, and to see or read or hear anyone say "that's too expensive" is like, it's just a pet peeve I guess for me.... I didn't go to hair school, but I like teaching myself stuff so that I can do my own hair, and I have mannequin heads I've been practicing on, and boy... just doing ONE section of their little head will take me over an hour, and my back is screaming at me, but even before all that, I just, always think the minimum price for any hairdresser should be 100/hr MINIMUM.. and sorry this comment has gotten so long, basically Kristi, I just want you to know, I am not a rich person, I live paycheck to paycheck like most people, but if you did that service on my thick a$$ hair, and got it looking like that, and spent 5 or 6 hours on it, I wouldn't expect to pay less than 1200 to be honest... I mean, probably more than that with tip, because that service is going to last MONTHS, and you got it all done in one day.. that is something I'd save for and spend top dollar for. One day, I swear I think I will grow out my hair as much as possible, and fly out to you!!! Just to get that awesome Kristi masterpiece!!!! You totally ROCK!!!!

If I wanted to get this exact hair transformation, what would I tell the hairstylist? Just shadow root balayage?

Sooo you tipped out her ends so the bottom is lighter but still with dimension? New stylist here and learning new techniques and what those techniques look like in the final result. Love your videos 🙏🏼

At the beginning of the video , I as like "what is she doing?" but watching it to the end, I loved the style and the simple but effective way you were doing the hair and the way you explained everything ,step by step, toner, root shadow, what shades to use and the like etc ... I will raise my own prices, I always undercharge and been told by a few clients that i do their hair on regular basis... so Thank You so much for your video, I loved it !

Can you please share with me the volume you used for the lightening? and when you do the shadow part was that 20 vol or 10. I am always afraid of pricing what if they said they didn't want to spend more then 200.00 then what would you do? And they want this look
@hairbykristijennings6648
@hairbykristijennings6648 Жыл бұрын
Great question! I always use 20 volume for lightening, nothing higher. Shadow is 6-10 vol. $200 is very low for color cost, that’s probably now a partial foil with haircut and toner. Just explain,” great! For $200 this is what we can do. A root shadow is an additional $50.” If $200 is their budget that’s fine but then they don’t get the root shadow….. or say…. If they were getting a full foil and wanted a root shadow but couldn’t afford the whole price, tell them “instead of a full foil, why don’t we do a partial foil and then we can add the shadow.” Never let a client talk you into adding into the service for free and don’t feel bad about not doing it if it’s out of their budget. Everything has a price and everyone has a budget.

The issue with what hairdressers charge (in my area), is that regular stylist, not “master stylist” work at mom and pops salons using mediocre products, try to charge you the same amount as the bougie salon with the master stylist. It’s not happening, clients are not dumb. I’m paying my hard earned money. I want to have products that keep my hair, strong and beautiful and a stylist that goes to shows, and is up-to-date on new styles and colors.

And is the shadow root color that you’re using what you mix before with the five and the 5-1 and the 5-21? And by coming that through will it darken the part that you toned

And if someone isn't comfortable paying that much for such an AMAZING service that obviously lasts them months and months, then, you really don't want that client to begin with.. That's like the people who think that the less hair you trim for them means it'll cost less. *Eye ROLL* like, no, that sh*t costs the same, doesn't matter if it's 3 inches or if it's half an inch.. I MEAN THERE ARE SERIOUSLY PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT SHOULD COST LESS!!! I'm all for you raising your hourly girl, when I first started watching you, I just assumed your work would be at least 150 and hour, so I just wanted you to know that YOU ARE WORTH so much more, but I also completely understand where you are coming from in terms of undercharging, I just wish girls who want such beautiful hair really KNEW how much that work is worth! I adore you!!!!
