I know that this is about depression, but it kind of hits different as someone with dermatillomania “In secret I will cry with a vicious little lie”-“In secret I will cry” can go for alot of things. Some choose to hide their scars, some dont. Personally for me, this related to more the “vicious little lie”. How I hate people seeing my pick. “I don’t know where to find who to blame at all this time”-it can be really frustrating how you can get stuck in a trance for hours, loosing so much time just suffering. “Sell your soul while you’re alive to that one devil that will buy”-sometimes it does feel like you’ve sold your soul. You feel possesed, because you keep hurting yourself and cant stop. It feels like a demon using your body to hurt you and torture you. “You’ll find once you pry that its so null so deep inside”-“prying” your skin off, but not feeling anything in terms of pain, because you’ve become numb, either from picking at said area so much or just from being in the trance. “So deep inside”, this one’s a little personal, but sometimes when i pick at skin on my stomach it literally feels like im digging around in my insides “In the dark and shining bright on your fingers hell resides”- again, first part is quite personal; i often find myself picking in the late afternoon, many times staying up an hour later than i want to because i just cant stop. More generally, though, “on your fingers hell resides” i feel would resonate with alot of people with the disorder who mainly pick using their nails/fingers. The hell is the blood residing on your fingers, under your nails, caking them, a gory mess. “Your mind’s ill and blind, it won’t hesitate for time”-“ill” in terms of it being a mental disorder, “blind” to the damage your causing, not hesitating for the amount of time spent on it because you’re in the trance “You’ll only find pain will turn to pleasure every time”-it can feel morbidly satisfying to smooth out a perceived flaw in your skin “You’ll hear it in your mind”-complusive, intrusive thoughts that are so intense you can almost hear them “I sigh, look inside after peeling skin of mine”-need I explain? I think this line is the very thing that started this interpretation of the song for me “Those ashes piling high with that emptiness they hide”-depending on how you pick, you can sometimes see little bits of nail/skin around the area. The emptiness is what you feel afterwards, after a while. Nothing. You grow numb to it. But for some, this emptiness may be that gut wrenching guilt. “That hand I call my right stained with lead will make me cry”-the “lead” in this situation being blood. The staining of blood, especially when you dont have the opportunity to readily wash your hands. And the smell of blood. The smell. That metalic smell. Its sickening.

hearing the english version reminds me even more of ibitsu, a (very graphic) horror manga about a gothic-lolita style demon. how the story goes it like this: a young girl in gothic-lolita clothes can be found sitting alone. she'll ask you: "would you have a little sister?" and the outcome will be gruesome no matter what you answer. the main reason this song reminds me of it is the art, its very similar to the design of the demon.
