I would say it is PvP. In Shadow Wars, the shadows here are your clan members and the one controlling the Immortal is the leader of the opposing clan.

to be the best of the best and defend humanity from hell, shadows are there to make sure they don't become corrupt and if they see weakness kill them and take over... think sith empire, except... for good...? idk

You mean in this particular event? Shadow Wars is basically a clan vs clan event, where the leader of each clan fights the opposing clan members as The Immortal. Whoever beats The Immortal first wins, as you can see the health bar on the top side of the screen from the video. To answer your question, The Immortal's objective here (if you are the clan leader) is to hold out as long as you can, kill Shadows of the opposing clan, and hope that your clan beats the other clan's Immortal first before you die.
