@2:21:00; damage of Data Spike is [Attack Rating/2, rounded up], so 4+net hits. You don't need to use Matrix Perception unless the target is running silent; this is similar to seeing people walk down the street, you only roll Perception when someone is trying to hide. Action economy; Opti could have used Spoof Command and the Fork program to have the bikes slam on their brakes or go wide open throttle, or anything to try to force a crash test, eliminating two pursuers per action...

I believe the term you are looking for Bobby is that you field strip and inspect the weapon before reassembling it. Find it a little ridiculous that a motorcycle is a more stable firing platform than a truck.

I've never played Shadowrun before and less than 2-dozen D&D 5e sessions, but I'll give you my first take on the edge system anyway. Edge is easy to understand, how it is gained, used, depleted, and refreshed is easy to keep track of. The most complicated part of edge is memorizing the cost and effect of each individual way to spend it. I like the way that your armor rewards edge as opposed to directly soaking damage. In a pinch, it effectively increases your soak by allowing you to manipulate your soak dice. Re-rolling a dice is (almost) the same as simply rolling an idea dice. However, where the mechanic shines is the freedom to express your character's talents in a more creative way. For example; I can imagine someone choosing to turn their armor rating edge into reckless attacks as if their character had an unflinching trait. And vice versa, leveraging your high attack rating to demonstrate your characters' dextrous capabilities on the defense by hitting more of your 'dodge dice'. I'm going to watch more of this campaign and I really look forward to learning more about Shadowrun, and 6e in particular so my friends and I can play

The really interesting thing about armour is that it seems like its really useful offensively in a battle because high armour means getting edge every time you get attacked which means you spend that edge on attacks which is a cool unique system. The lead on from this is that Street Samurai are going to be much more tanky than they are killy, because your stock standard human+titanium lacing is 9 body so shrugging off heavy pistol rounds taking 1-2 damage from rifles on av. getting edge everytime they do so which means they can defend or kill with their edge as needed. This isn't taking into consideration tatical edge and cover bonuses which makes this kind of play much more viable as well.
@sillygeneral2308
@sillygeneral2308 5 жыл бұрын
@Jake Strangeway IF we were using 5th logic I'd absolutely agree with your first points, but we're not. I think armour is used to help weedy characters buy hits, which for a heavy pistol is a third of its damage and it lets damage sponges use their tank anyway they want even aggressively. edge is meant to be in a state of flow, spending 4 and getting 3+ edge is conceivable in a single combat turn and allows characters more reliably do actions or even do special actions, its part of the new action economy. Depending on how much health characters have this either means that combat is really dangerous or really long. Disclaimer; Everything here is based on other people talking about 6th, ie bobby talking to the devs or mr johnson talking about quickstart so just buy a salt mine for the required sodium intake for all this. To more directly answer your question I think it COULD be an interesting Sidegrade IF we take into account for the fact that taking 9 damage is the new "someone shoots an assault rifle full auto at you point blank" as opposed to the base damage of a normal assault rifle shot assuming 6 damage which is meant to be the high end of the assault rifle range. With your example if someone shoots you with an assault rifle in 5th you roll 20 av 4 and take 5 stun from a dam 9 assault (mid range damage rifle) in 6th the idea seems for a non min-max human sam you roll 9 av 3 and take 3dam(from a high damage rifle). With edge the 6th edition samurai can on average almost completely ignore the damage by re-rolling the remaining dice whilst the 5th edition samurai has to just take the 5 damage, and you can reliably do this by working towards building edge which is almost a fairly mechanical player action i.e "so if I want to build edge I need to put myself in a situation where I have the tactical advantage so ill use my minor to move behind this guy and he's perfect because I have a much better attack so i'll gain two edge(one from tactical and one form attack) so when I get attacked next turn I can almost fully soak an assault rifle shot and only lose 1 effective edge". This trade isnt "better" because you can be invincible in 5th and have 30+ soak but at the 20-24 dice pool range 6th gives the tank sam a new edge economy thats much more effective for soak while you have edge and gives all the characters a new and renewable self heal because 1 edge can be used to heal a box which is all a fairly worthwhile trade. In a really stupid way this system actually makes more sense, if a scrawny (2) or average (3) dude went around in heavy body armour got shot with an assault rifle theres a good chance he'd be really messed up, broken ribs and a pierced lung from said rib fragments from the concentrated kinetic force of 7.62x50ish say (6 dam assault) is a possibility even without penetration. What the armour does is stop internal bleeding which is much more likely to kill you. If thongboi gets shot there's probably no chance for him to avoid taking a huge amount of damage outside of a lot of luck but for mr body armour there's a definite lessening of impact and maybe instead of waiting for a hole to heal he only spends the next week looking like he's part beetroot. Don't worry I'm not going to delude myself into thinking this is the reason why the system is this way and there's problems with the system as it seems but I think it's not terrible just very different and being tanky seems like a viable meta. also net hits are a thing so numbers are a bit off but defense v attack is such a big variable I feel you can only work off of base damage.
@sillygeneral2308
@sillygeneral2308 5 жыл бұрын
@Jake Strangeway a disclaimer; there's a good chance that 6th is absolute garbage, I'm arguing from the standpoint that there's a possibility it would work with the information given, loving this conversation tho its such a weird system. The two edge thing is big contender, if you can bank two edge and any edge after that has to be spent then its fine, i.e attack and x condition move my edge from 1 to 3 so now the 1 edge I get from armour has to be spent somehow so I spend 1 edge to reroll 1 die or 4 edge to reroll all die. I'm presuming this edge doesn't have to be spent on its own I can add 3 edge to reroll all dies so my actual soak goes from 9 to 15 presuming av rolls and re-rolling remaining die. this is based on the presumption that the edge you get goes into a pool/you can choose to bank or use the edge, if you have to immediately spend that sole edge obviously the system is terrible. Your also comparing the two health pools as well I don't think they say what their health pools are in this, if your health pool is halved being able to buy a hit is important if your say soldier 2 with only 4 soak. If health is as per 5th then we operate in the really dumb world where everyone is a kryptonian and a panther assault cannon means you call in sick as opposed to showing up in the obituaries. In that case you have a lot of room to move around with and so even though your taking more damage that edge feeds your economy and you can use it to do a lot i.e re-roll your attack gaining a bunch of extra damage this is also presuming you cant spend edge immediately to heal and the only way to knock someone out is sufficient overkill. The point of the 1 edge gain being really useful is it feeds into an economy so you might be able to "gain" 4 edge per turn but you can only bank 2 edge and each edge after is essentially a 1 edge voucher for specifically that action. This works out great because then your goal would be to do what you can to get those 2 edge before you get hit so you can use that armour edge and maybe edge from cover for a re-roll, OR you bank 1 edge spend a bunch and then use your armour to gain another. If its 2 edge per turn flat then the system sucks with the information we have. The reason this is potentially cool is say if health pools are body+strength or body + 1/2 body so if soldier 2 has say 8 (4 bod 4 strength) or 6 (4 + 2) phys then being able to potentially spend 3 free edge is big, meaning the difference being that soldier 1 doesn't have to be lucky and soldier 2 is facing an opponent who has banked an edge or who can go from 12 to 20(12 dice leading to the original scenario and 8 dice adding 3 extra successes) dice pool for 3 or less edge (meaning its potentially only 1 edge over the course of the turn) meaning he actually does 9 as opposed to 6 damage killing him in both scenarios of reduced health and means that using normal health values that for only 1 effective edge your predator does more damage than a panther assault cannon. This is presuming there's no way to use stun in a way similar to 5th such as spending 2/3 edge to turn a source of damage to stun.

2:23:00 I have yet to play SR 5e The armor in 6e still confuses me. As i understand: roll defense stat, armor adds static bonus to defense dice pool + cover bonus + if they “dodged” as one of their action types. I am sure I am missing some steps tho :(
@ericm3327
@ericm3327 4 жыл бұрын
No your armor rating is simply armor number let’s say 3 plus body number let’s say 5 you now have 8 dice there are bonuses from things like edge or cover that give you additional dice or hits or let you Reroll dice to try and get more “hits.” I would use the word success instead, of someone attacking you rolls more successes over your successes they hit you with damage. You can soak damage with body which again gives you dice to attempt to shrug damage but it isn’t foolproof (ie a static number ) its a chance to roll for it

From what I gathered the idea is that before dice are rolled for an attack you compare attack value to defense value and if the difference is enough one way or the other then you get a +/-1 Edge; and armor increases your DV for that test only. So kinda and kinda not.
@omnisquirrel
@omnisquirrel 5 жыл бұрын
It sounds like it doesn't even do that ( around about 2:28:00 ). It sounds like armor's only purpose is to give you or prevent your opponent from gaining edge. So someone with a full armored jacket and dermal plating, and a naked ork, both soak with only their body. I really hope that changes...it seems like such a completely unnecessary, strange design choice for...no purpose.
@Groovvy81
@Groovvy81 5 жыл бұрын
@@omnisquirrel At first I was thinking that it didn't make sense to remove armor from the soak pool, but since they drop the damage value from 5th edition it kinda make sense. In 5th everyone would be wearing at least an armor jacket so everyone if kinda equal before factoring in the augmentations (bone lacing still adds to your body). The only changing value would be the body attribute. What I think it encourages in 6th is to wear an armor that you like for style more than just for the soak pool bonus. Let's say you have a mage with armor jacket(12) and 3 body vs a troll with the same armor but 9 body resisting an ares predator 8p+1 net hit. The mage would get an average of 5 hits (30% of 15) and the troll would get around 7hit (30% of 20). The mage would get 4dmg and the troll 2dmg, if you do the same thing in 6th with say 3dv+1 net hit (which I think is what a predator would do) the mage would get 1 hit and the troll would get 3 hit therefore getting hit by 3dmg and 2dmg respectively which is pretty close to what you get in 5th not factoring the bonus edge the troll might get which might equalize the difference between the two. The thing that might make it more lethal in 6th is the net hits on an attack, if you get 3 net hits on an attack with a predator dv3, you basically double the amount of dmg of the weapon. I might be trying to convince myself that 6th ed will be good though :)

@@Groovvy81 I guess I just can't grok with the fact that armor doesn't help you /at all/ against damage (except for maybe two re-rolls max, because edge). And the fact that that edge you gain from armor can be used for...anything. The example of armorjacket, forearm guards and ballistic mask vs naked ork comes to mind. Of course, we don't have the rules in front of us yet, and it's possible they may change...improbable, since they announced a release date, but possible. But call me a grognard, I just think it makes no sense. Power to anyone who looks forward to it.

On armor. It seems defense rating is body+ armor. If this is correct wouldn't the value of high armor+body be as an edge generation source? A high defense rating would keep a combat character in edge, which seems liie it would be very rewarding for "aggro/tank" narrative playstyle for combat specialised characters?

I like the new spirits system. Seems to offer a more enjoyable experience for a dedicated summoner. lasting two sunrise/sunsets is a godsend, and being able to have magic x 3 in total force of spirits will let you feel like a magic command rigger, but you pay with headaches and sleep instead of nuyen. Don't like 6th edition much from the look of it though. I wanna houserule this spirit system into 5e, but does anyone have idea for a houseruled binding system to accompany it? I do actually like making summoning tests opposed by force x 2. I like the idea that summoning spirits is hard and risky to do in combat when you can't just take a nap and try again, but I think that it only works if you accompany it with a satisfying binding system. I personally don't like the nuyen treadmill that binding spirits is in 5e, where mages just keep spending nuyen during downtime to bind spirits for a finite amount of time. If the cost was comparable to what street sams paid for ammo, I'd be cool with it, but its much more comparable to what riggers pay for drones, but with a time limit. A careful rigger will only need to replace drones when shit goes really wrong. but a dedicated summoner can kiss that nuyen goodbye after a very finite amount of services. It almost disincentivizes using the bound spirit for anything but combat, since the value you get out of a single service for combat just doesn't seem in line with power usage or anything else except maybe spell sustaining. I personally feel like, if you cap a summoner's power level with the magic x 3 = max total force of active spirits, and then further nerf summoning by having summoning test be opposed by force x 2 (albeit, with the adjustment so that drain is just defense hits, not defense hits x 2, which only compensates and is not a buff in any way) then I feel like you have room to buff binding to be more satisfying. Like, I feel like bound spirits should be permanent except for 2 situations: they get disrupted, or you abuse them. without invoking astral reputation, I think "abuse them" should simply be using too many services too quickly. so my idea is that binding should be carried out as normal per 5e rules, but bound spirits give you a free service that doesn't count against their pool of services, and this free service refreshes after the sun rises and then sets (or sets and then rises). if you use more services before the free service refreshes, then it counts against the service pool as normal and if you ever use the last one the spirit leaves. so if you limit your usage to just 1 service per day basically, then the only way you can lose the spirit is if it gets disrupted. I think that the bound spirits should count against the magic x 3 limit when active, but while they are dismissed they don't count against the magic x 3 limit. also, I think it makes sense for bound spirit total to not be counted as number of spirits = charisma, but to instead count total force of bound spirits. so max force of bound spirits should be charisma x 3 instead in order to have some reason to bind lower force spirits. also, if you feel that the free service per day rule makes the spirits too valuable, you can increase the nuyen to bind, doubling the nuyen to bind makes a force 5 spirit cost the same as a rotodrone, for comparison's sake. so if anyone bothered to read this whole thing, what do you think? would you make any changes? is it all just garbage?

@@ericm3327 haha, this was a year ago and I had just started getting into shadowrun 5e when 6e was announced. I was all over the place with ideas, cuz i didn't really like 6e's execution, but I liked all the philosophical motivations behinds their rules. - nowadays, I run 5e with a TON of houserules. I basically removed upkeep based costs because I believe that progression should be permanent for a healthy gaming experience (in general. many groups of players can be exceptions to things, especially if they explicitly sign up for such things). Then I did a bunch of houserules to deal with abuse cases when as they came up. - I'm pretty happy with it now. I feel like spirits have essentially become magic drones in my system. repairing drones/vehicles and rebinding spirits are done with downtime but not nuyen. and these pet-type classes have to choose between having a few weaker pets or one stronger pet. - it does take a lot of the crazy out of shadowrun, so its not for everyone, but it makes it so that we don't spend a disproportionate amount of time dealing with people with lots of pets. - personally, I think the cyber'd street sam vs adept and the decker vs technomancer is completely fine in 5e. and I feel like mages without spirits are also completely fine in 5e. I don't think that nuyen vs karma as a progression system is problem so long as you run the common houserule where you can exchange karma and nuyen for each other during downtime. I really felt like the big stand out issues were vehicles, drones, and bound spirits which all required constant expenditure of nuyen to maintain the power level of and also had too high of a peak power level. I think, once you take care of these things with houserules, 5e ends up being a much more satisfying system than 6e. - I also streamlined some stuff for certain groups, where I had it so that defense roles were a flat number dicepool/3 rounded up yes that made characters more min/maxable but it meant that instead of rolling defense and rolling attack and then rolling soak. the defender only had to roll soak and it made things much faster. just a bunch of things like that to try to borrow the ideas behind 6e but still use 5e haha. not for everyone, but that's what we do now.

Quite a lot, potentially. There's been a big push to reclaim the city, and so the corps are being asked to provide documentation that proves they own a particular chunk of land or a building. Considering a lot of that data has been lost in Matrix crashes, quite a few Shadowrunners make nuyen looking for paydata that proves a corp's case, planting false evidence, or (in the case of the run for the stream) to make sure there is no evidence to be found to support a rival's claim.

He was assuming that since they were in no-where between cities essentially out on the highway that there wasn't going to be much Matrix connection so nobody would have wireless stuff to hack - they did discuss that during the fight or afterwards and the GM agreed that it made sense: though I sort of question that but then I'm not as familiar with SR world and it's "Matrix" and how extensive it is: especially when they talked about how much effort corps were putting in to reconnect Chicago to the Matrix.earlier in the show.

Jake Strangeway no you always roll dice for armor and body. Edge is ADDITIONAL there are abilities that let you add even more to this pool of dice but you have a to have saved some of your action economy. Like calling out “I hit the dirt” you jump down prone and get more dice added to armor and body to defend yourself. If your attacker still rolls more successes than you (or an equal amount) it’s considered a hit and he takes his weapon based damage and adds it to his success rolls minus your success rolls. This is the total damage coming your way. NOW you can soak with body, if you have cyber that specifically gives you body you add that to your dice pool and try to shrug off this damage or let the armor take it. Here is where everyone is fucking it, some skills and gear give you an extra edge point DURING a test like a defense test or a soak test. This does not take from your pool or is extra, and if you don’t use it it is gone after that dice test so of course you want to at least use it to reroll 1’s or something

I was pretty pumpt about the new edition, especially the edge system and the overall streamlining. Hyped after the Q&A and was annoyed that I didn't have the time to watch the play right away. Now, after knowing a little more about it, almost all my excitement changed to frustration. As far as I understand it (and I may be wrong) I hate the edge system. I hope my impression is wrong but so far it seems much to easy to exploit the system and do silly stuff that breaks the game for me. I mean, why wouldn't I buy every piece of junk that is likely to give me an edge to max it out for the first rounds of combat? Which is enough for a maxed out character to kill a few enemies, before he would run dry. Cybereyes for example are a no-brainer. If you combine it with different pieces of equipment you could milk if for multiple points of edge as long as the enemy doesn't have them too. (flashbangs, smoke etc) What blows my mind is that there is no limitations ragarding the source and the useage of the edge. Theoretically a sam, that can't even use it, could carry around a cyberdeck just to get the edge over someone and use it to... haggle. Or shot him in the face. Or reroll his soak pool against an attack... The worst thing is that in many cases it doesn't even matter all that much. A single dice reroll is meaningless with a big dice pool. At the same time it's almost a must have in other cases. High noice rating could otherwise make it almost impossible for a decker to collect the payload.. Because of this it's impossible to house rule the bad things away without rewriting the whole thing. So we have a rather complex system that may cost all the time we saved up by abstracting and enables ridiculous things that shouldn't be possible, breaking any kind of immersion. I really hope I misunderstood how the system works. or maybe I am overstating its role in the game. I can't say. It can't be that broken, can it? It would be the most embarrasing fail I have ever seen out of a RPG system like that. D&D 4.0 looks good compared to that... I will keep on watching this campain to get a better picture. And I will keep on talking about it with the people I wanted to play the 6th with. Maybe you can fix the biggest problems with some house rules. It's not like I hate everything about the new edition. It's just the things I don't like seems to really break the game.
@moes80
@moes80 5 жыл бұрын
Well, it sounds like you can only get two edge per turn, so I don't think you can just load up on gear and get tons of edge per turn. If you have laser targeting and cyber eyes and enemy doesn't have anything to counter, then you get two edge, you can't get more from anything else. You also have a general cap of 7. Rerolling one die might not seem so great, but spending 4 lets you reroll all your dice. Also, we now know that you can spend four edge and add your edge attribute as extra dice to your pool and they become exploding, which is pretty good. You can also use spend three to heal a stun or 4 to heal one physical damage. So, edge does a lot more than just reroll one die.

100% can say I have the opposite problem. One player in particular whether GM or player nearly breaks whatever system we're using whatever the situation. She's rolled high enough consistently enough to beat down an enemy we were never meant to confront and she has nearly killed me with a grunt by criting each attack in a different system. but it doesn't change with phys dice either. It's madness and we're still trying to find out what deal she made with the dice gods.

Armor system and edge system are so bad. Good armor for just 1 edge? to reroll 1 soak? So, no matter how good your armor is, it's worth 1/3 point of body at best. And from info we get from other source. Benefice from edge is so little. 1 edge to reroll ONE dice? 2 edge to +1 to SINGLE dice? (you can make one 4 to became 5 and get more 1 hit, that's it) 3 edge to heal ONE stun damage? 4 edge to heal ONE physical damage? they make a complex system to generate edge that will hindrance play into snail pace but edge just do so little, it's nearly pointless. At this point, just get rid of EDGE system all together and we will get a better game.

So you micromanage with edge more but it comes back every encounter. Plus some skills give you free edge every time a condition is met. Those little bonuses add up quite a bit over time it’s much more tactical and less of a giant swing like some crazy wish point that gives you whatever you want for 1 turn. Maybe it needs some tweaking but in practice it is better than it sounds
