That's a sad story. Unfortunately their divorce is just a question of time. Every couple once face this. And the situation they are in indicates that their relationship is in the threshold of the end. I understand the man well. He doesn't want to get rid of the project he's been maintaining for a long period of time. It is called "the complex of irretrievable costs". But if something is perished it is impossible to make it fresh again. He can fix some bugs, but it will give just a temporary effect. The only thing this man can do is to delay the inevitable end. To my mind there's no sense in trying to carry this on. The sooner he breaks up with her the more comfortable his life becomes. And the sooner he recreates after this toxic relationship.
