Good review, and I have good news on the karma front: You don't gain it for good deeds or bad deeds, you just gain it for "doing stuff". The more content you see, the more karma you're likely to gain. Things like sidequests and the like, though none are spectacularly hidden or anything.

its based on a pen and paper game just like the dungeons and dragons games and that is why the character building is so in depth. i personally think the combat could be better, with a better cover system, but the game world has such a unique feeling to it i would play it based just in that

All of your points are super valid. I had such a good time just making a character be what I wanted it to be. I had this melee fisticuffs character that I just sorta felt wouldn't be a thing that existed in any other game world

Certain things will get you bonuses too, I have noticed in my short time playing. If you pass a challenge with a skill or a Charisma check, you will usually get some bonus Karma that you wouldn't otherwise. It's pretty neat!

In my defense, I made this nine years ago. I'd prolly do better if I made it again today. Videos tend to be more focused and condensed these days and I think that's a good thing

That's not the whole story though. There are parts of the game where being the 'good guy' gives you more Karma, sometimes counterbalanced by getting less creds in turn.

I like my build. I like to try to do something that sounds difficult. Hand to hand is fun and it's powerful so far but I predict I'll have trouble staying alive later in the game.

Shadowrun Returns, WAY more than you need to know... lol I just got around to buying the collection. I love it so far. But I find myself daydreaming about making a game that creates DnD style RPGS using intelligent-RNG simulations as well as user-created campaigns.

That sounds awesome actually! I'd play it for sure, but it sounds like a big tough complicated project. I've always thought about taking out a business loan and making a tactics RPG.

Well I played a rifle build the first time through, it was a total cake walk, I have read about people struggling on caster or pet builds, but if you push a rifle build up, you will walk through all of the combat. The hired runners that you can get are almost not needed because you basically blow everything away at very long range. Full Auto = broken and overpowered I find myself wanting to play the game again and make it more difficult with a different build.

I disagree with pretty much everything is said lol I like the game, as I like a cool 10 bucks game without ambition... but hey, it's a RPG, and damn, it's Shadowrun ! The game has its charms, but it lacks of deph in pretty much every area, character evolution is basic and straightforward, welcome to 1990, there's near no exploration, most areas are quite small, and empty, and there's not much to find, the combats are boring, too much missed attacks from both player and IA, the cover system is unclear... I think Shadowrun Returns is more like an interactive story than a real RPG (or a even video game). It's hard to figure who's the target of that game, most pen & paper Shadowrun players will find it pretty llimited, and the avid video gamers will find it pretty cheap even for a kickstarted indie game... but still, it can be enjoyable, I think I had it for like 10 bucks with Dragonfall included, si, this is not much money, and I like the atmosphere.

Just sell the shit when you log back in! A lot better than the issue I had with the FF7 android port crashing when I attempt to farm, costing me up to an hour in cutscenes and dialogue I constantly need to do again until I break and give up. Not to harp on the items, gil and exp I have lose every time it crashes! And it's $15 instead of $1.99!
