Fun fact: The "Force" which your ship uses as mains of defense and for special weapons is actually a bydo embryo aka an infant Bydo Core, this essentially means that the Bydo Core is unleashing hundreds of its own kind into outer space, talk about pyrric victory... Also, these game textures have A LOT more detail thana R-Type Final 2 has, it is sad because Final 2 is okay, but it could have been so much more graphically and music wise

Man, ending 2 is really sad. I've read that the pilot, in that ending, doesn't know that they are possessed by the Bydo, and basically just thinks their allies have gone insane and attacking them for no reason. What I didn't know is that you actually had to play this section and murder waves upon waves of your allies. That's rough.

In R-Type Command/Tactic 1 have same ending. Every chapter intro somehow sad because the entire crew confused as their human comrade attacking them.

R-13A Cerberus is a horrifying moment to think about, considering the pilot never managed to escape from Bydo space. It's a neat call-back from R-Type Delta, but something of a somber moment to see the tragic fate and another casualty of the great Bydo conflict. On a lighter note: There is a A LOT of lore to consume within the game itself. The number of ships produced and their stories (many of them from Irem's other titles), the research on all of the Bydo subjects is neat to read as well.

@@pixeldude8441 It's not a simple answer, but it's definitely an interesting one. The R-13A Cerberus was equipped with a Lightning Wave Cannon, which was inadequately designed for further use in breaking through the Bydo home dimension, even though the pilot tried in vain to gather up enough power to do so. The Wave Cannons were designed to totally destroy the Bydo, due to their waveform nature. Although the cannon on the Cerberus was capable of doing the job, it clearly wasn't ready for cracking holes into another dimension like the normal wave cannons used by the Delta, even the Albatross could pierce the barrier with its cannon (I think it was a Burst Wave Cannon). ^^; I hope this provides the details you were looking for. I just really happen to enjoy the lore of R-Type.

And true that R-Type had a handful of games made after Final. Like the 2 turn-based rpgs on the PSP and Dimensions. Anyway, I'm super glad it's being made by former iRem devs. Can't wait to hear more news about it.

Some of these ships are obnoxious to unlock. I remember selecting a certain ship, turning on the invincibility at stage 3, going to work and coming back, and turning off the invincibility and getting a game over to unlock a new ship.

No there's multiple branches. After stage 5 is 3 different stage 6's depending on how you fought 5's boss, each going to a different ending.

@@markguyton2868 And the R-type in there is the unfortunately fated R-13. It's not just some random ship that ended up there, it's one of the ships you piloted in R-type Delta. If you complete the game as R-13, it won't escape the collapsing Bydo dimension after destroying it (from sacrificing your force, of course). In which, for some reason, the dimension is just neighboring beside Earth. Anyways, the reason why R-13 was unable to escape the dimension is not known to my knowledge, but my dad just told me that its wave cannon wasn't strong enough, (which I could see why, since all the ships use their Wave Cannon to break the barrier between the Bydo dimension and the human one.) even though I thought R-13's Wave Cannon was the best in the game. It may have something to do with the Force's "Bydo Power" mentioned in the intro of the game, with R-13's force having the highest... Now that I think about, that may be the case. As after stating that, the camera ominously pans towards R-13's...eye? And everything darkens, except the eyes. So I guess the force was just too powerful for its own good and caused the dimension to collapse quicker than usual. But don't take it from me though, because that's just an idea I spitball-ed from long ago. you should probably look it up to see what actually happened. If it still exists.

I can provide some detail about that one: The Bydo is a waveform entity, which means it can infiltrate anything with ease. It assimilates anything it passes through, which is what happened to the ship you were piloting. It's pretty wild, actually and not to mention really cool stuff within the lore. Also, it's grim as all hell too.

amazing run but could you answer a question? This appears to be emulated but i can't tell if it's running at normal speed. I tried playing this on an emulator and i couldn't find any settings or roms that didn't run at either half too fast or half too slow (I forget which, it was a bit ago.) I like this game but it has one of the most shitty ways to unlock new ships. Having to use a certain ship for x amount of time (which iirc was up to 60 minutes, maybe even more) then having to use the new ship an x amount of time to unlock another ship, then having to use that new ship an x amount of time to etc. etc. etc...

It is a plot deviced scene, not an actual gameplay feature. But in lore the R-9A pilot needed to fuse their Force (Which is a Bydo egg/baby) with the Bydo Core, so borrowing the same amount of energy that Bydo Core uses, it can power up the Wave Cannon to a "Final" level which can obliberate the Core.

At stage 5 the boss has multiple ways to trigger different paths you can take. Path A takes you to the Bydo Core, Path B to the R-9A and Path C to Gridlock (which technically isn't a final boss because of the stage after it). The secret boss only appears when you play as a certain ship and it replaces the 3rd stage. You generally need to finish the game to unlock said ship.
