episode 3 is out and we actually see our newbie Light lost his first match. Not only this makes him even more relatable (reminder that Hiiro NEVER lost any matches he fought during the whole run of season 1, which is pretty bullshit especially for his thrown-together bricks of a deck), his opponent also made it clear the reason why he lost (as in the mistake he did the turn before he got defeated), which is awesome bcos not all card games are lost bcos the enemy got better hand or topdecks the one card they needed, sometimes it is our own decision that bites us back.

Yeah, characters in Shadowverse Flame make a lot more misplays than in most card game anime and that validates the idea of how much better some are than others. Show don’t tell. …I don’t know if that’s in the original series though, as I never watched it.

i like that it fixes the problems the first season had. Especially the skipping through battles part. I agree that Light's motivation sucks and he's pretty deadpan but other than that I like it so far.

I know the deadpan is a bit of a miss but it kind of sets him up a little different from other card game protagonists, especially if they have a dragon ace/partner they usually have the a personality comparable to fire or a feisty albeit overconfident egos

Shadowverse college is actually a middle school therefore the main cast is around 13-15 years old pretty much like in previous anime.

I’m going to be honest, I was pissed at how that happened. I don’t take issue with Light losing. However, I didn’t like the circumstances surrounding said loss. 1. It took 3 episodes just for the first fight to conclude making it feel like I was wasting my time seeing character development and no plot advancement. 2. It would take a total of 5 EPISODES just to see Light get 1 win. You can have the protag lose in the intro fight without sacrificing plot advancement and still have character development. (Cardfight Vanguard Divine Z perfectly shows how) I’m only 5 episodes in and I hope this show gets much better from here on but the introduction still leaves a very sour taste in my mouth.

But even more so, I want the series to conclude with Light getting so good that he hands Hiiro his first ever L.

Before Flame, I loathe every second of the original Shadowverse anime. Hiro is a terrible protagonist even in a TCG anime sense, and I honestly don’t know what the frick is going on with each duel. Even though it’s been two episodes, it looks like Shadowverse Flame is trying to improve the flaws of it’s predecessor. Light is definitely a huge step up from Hiro (so far) and I like that the writers that he doesn’t have a clue that he doesn’t know to play Shadowverse and actually do something with it (Thank god episode 2 is a tutorial episode). My only nitpick with Shadowverse, not only reminds GX, it also reminds me of another card game anime that I love (RIP Buddyfight). But overall, while I’m trying to lower expectations, I am looking forward to what Flame has to offer.

4:40 - Judai’s the only one for about half of Season 1. Jun gets the ability to see Winged Kuriboh and other duel spirits once Ojama Yellow (and his brothers later on) become his partner. Episodes for both the Dark Scorpions and the well with stupidly weak cards clarify that Judai and Jun can see other duel spirits just fine. Then Season 3 established that there’s others like them through Johan and his Crystal Beasts.

i do love the new anime, Light is dense-ness and good hearth got me invested in the character and the story plus he seems like a mix version of Judai and Yusei. on top of that Light deck IS an actual deck not just some highlander bs slap together then hopes it works, AND HAS CLEAR PLAYSTYLE AND GOAL TO ACHIVED. not to mentioned Light first wins comes from he using his card on the hands not top decking to victory, which was a nice change of paces. not to mentined the writer definitely play or at least knew about Shadowverse player archetype, memes and running joke within the community with a good amount of the game knowledge to boot to create certain big brain play that can actually happen in the real game.

I actually didn't expect this season to be quite a major upgrade tbh.Up until now i'm liking the new cards and archtypes being bring in this season (light armor dragon deck being extremely aggro and can control opp board,itsuki forest being hybrid of control and otk based and gentleman chess piece spam deck).I also like how light actually think extra possible outcome during gentleman fight and bet on draconic fervor draw instead of bringing out his ace instead/

in the actual game that chess runecraft deck is very OP. if youre building it, i suggest the main chess trait peices, and a lot of draw sources for the most potential. some spellboost too can help but its very much secondary.

I really like this series so far. I am a bit late to the party but I'm about 30 episodes in and I find the show and characters pretty enjoyable. Also the opening sequences are a lot of fun as well. I don't quite understand the card game but I enjoy seeing their awesome monsters. I like how they are pacing character development and nobody (so far) has been left by the wayside. So far I'd give this series an 8 out of 10. I haven't watched the previous Shadowverse anime so I don't know if it's any good or not.

I wouldn't necessarily call every aspect a reference or copy of GX The protagonist not being good at the cardgame and misplaying at the start of the series is like how Yuma was in Zexal (minus Astral) And Digifriends seem much more of a digimon/pokemon/cute anime mascot thing than Duel Spirits imo

I actually haven't watched the first Shadowverse season. (I didn't even know there was one to be honest.) I stumbled across FLAME by coincidence on the TV Tokyo website and have been watching it there even since. (Same as Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!!) I have to say I like it so far. It's nothing mind-blowing and the pasting might be a little bit to slow for some people, but that's actually something I quite enjoy/Iike. Same goes for YGO! Go Rush!! ~ I love that show! I've actually skipped SEVENS (- might still watch l later though - also watched Arc-V after VRAINS -). So I had no I had no idea how to play Rush Duels, but Go Rush!! as well, does a pretty good job in explaining the rules within the series. (Maybe even a bit better than Shadowverse.) So I actually bought the starter decks, when I saw them in a store - and now I (try to) learn the game by watching the Anime. XD (My phone recently suggested the Shadowverse game to me. ... Hm ... maybe ... at some point.)

Every aspect of the series is way better. The characters, the plot, the animation and most importantly the fights/decks, like they actually put a lot of thoughts into it. One the first series the main cast literally use the basic description of their class, like Runecraft just use spell. Forest just play fairy, Heaven just play amulet.

In Flame is stated in the first episodes that the legendary cards are seal under statues... and everyone knows it! Why no one just stole them? Are literally exposed on the academy. And isn't suspicious that the founder recommended to Light to join the academy even if he literally never played the game and it's the same that told to the legendary heroes to seal the legendary cards? I can't be surprised if he reveal to be the main Villain at this point.

That’s why the Flame Saga has been such a drag for me, episode 2 and 3 was used for one match just to give a break down of the rules and mechanics of Shadowverse. Im just interested in the story and the companionships of the Dualist and the Digital Pets to be honest, because it gives me that Digimon/Pokémon vibes. The issue for me is how i have to watch Light build friendships, learn the game inside out before i see all the digital pet interaction (the Digifriends are so beautiful and cute) and the Deck monsters are extremely Edgy and Majestic! Kinda wanna compete with Yugioh, Digimon, Pokemon and everything relatable to them🤣

While Shadowverse F is obviously leagues above the first anime, but it still kept its most glaring flaw: overusing tropes it knows nothing about. We do get some cool scenes thanks to that, but 99% of the time, it's just embarrassing to watch. most of the villains are a good example of that, they include: -guy who think that shadowverse is a game and has fun playing it (and that's eeeeevil because clearly you should treat it as the most serious thing out there) -guy who think that data is data and only plays card because they're good (and that's eeeeevil because just look at how he is treating is *digital* friend) Similarly, two duels that almost happen one after the other (light vs Alice and Subaru vs Fuwari) straight up have opposite messages. One is about how Light shouldn't take it too seriously and should have more fun and the other is about how Subaru shouldn't take it too casually and should be more serious.

I highly recommend skipping prequel/1st season. The best thing is to read a short synopsis of it or skip it entirely. You won't really lose much in doing it. I'd say you can watch Flame without watching first season of Shadowverse.

theres 2 massive problems with the anime tho. 1st: card effects are in several instances completely different from the actual game. 2nd: nobody in the show uses real decks apart from one or two characters ive seen so far throughout the whole 45 episodes released. its mostly just a random mix of cards from the entirety of the games existence with one or two newer cards mixed in as"trump cards" even among characters that are supposed to be high level players. sv flame as an anime by itself isnt too bad but it absolutely sucks as promotional material for the actal game.

thr Armed Dragon deck is not yet in any Shadowverse games sadly, they probably either will make an expansion to the switch games first to implement Shadowverse Flame's cards and/or a totally new switch game for it as for the android/steam version, we probably will have to wait for even longer to get SV Flame's cards. and they all would be slightly modified to better fit the current power level/meta of that version of the game. that was the case with the season 1 anime cards, some got really insane thx to the difference they have in the android version (Skeleton Raider in particular is the biggest deal, bcos now he has an effect that allows you to discount his costs when you evolve a follower while he's in your hand, making him a formidable threat by becoming a readily accesible Storm and board clear by turn 6 as opposed to being locked at 8 playpoint costs)
