This video shows an early morning boat ride on the Mary River Billabong depicting the natural beauty of the area. The abundance of bird life with good lighting makes it a great spot for photographing birds. The occasional water buffalo and crocodile may also work their way into the frame.
Shady Camp Billabong is reliant on a man made barrage constructed in 1987 to prevent saltwater from penetrating into the fresh water section. This section above the barrage (the fresh water side) is navigable for just over 5 km. A concrete boat ramp is available just above the barrage.
