The Shafer Switchbacks are a series of narrow, winding switchbacks that descend from the top of a mesa to the valley floor 800' below in Canyonlands National Park Island in the Sky district. This trail is fairly well maintained and passenger cars could do the switchbacks in good weather with no problems, but the rest of the trail at the bottom requires higher clearance and possibly 4WD.
This is part one of a two part video series. This first part is the Shafer Switchbacks. The second part shows the rest of the Shafer Trail, past Thelma and Louise Point, to the Potash Road in Moab. You can see part 2 here:
