These videos are not only very helpful but also well produced. We are in the middle of a bringing a 83’ Ski Nautique back to life. These videos have been invaluable for learning, planning and preparing. Well done.

Ron. Great videos. I had to completely replace my strut and shaft due to hitting ground. All is back together now with new coupler, stuffing box etc. of course I am off alignment so looking at adjusting. My motor is a pcm. My trunions look to be in decent shape but with some corrosion. A light attempt at adjusting reveals they are somewhat seized. Any tips other that penetration oil to help the along? Would applying some heat to the bore where the trunions go into the motor be a possible help. Any other tips?. All trunion nuts bolts on 4 corners loosened nicely. Thank you!

Hello, Thank you for the video. My question is, will I need to replace the packing in the stuffing box after I pull it back to check the alignment in the shaft log or will the original packing be able to be reused?

properly adjusted stuffing boxes with good shaft alignment will last hundreds of hours between packing replacement, simply adjust as needed until you are out of adjustment, and always allow some dripping to assure proper cooling.

These are great videos. I would say 99 percent of ski boats are running out of alignment and don’t even know it because they think the subtle vibration is normal.

Thanks, couldn't agree with you more, Most common response is "I didn't know it needed to be checked" Every boat/engine builder clearly recommends checking and adjusting as needed annually. Worst thing I ever heard was at this years International Boat Builder Exhibition and I noticed a ski boat engine on display that had a very if not impossible motor mount to get to, when I asked the rep about it he said "No one does alignments anymore, we don't worry about it".

What is a flexible coupling for?
@rontanis10242 жыл бұрын
Inboard ski boats do not use flexible couplings, boats with a lot of room/distance between the shaft log and transmission may use a marine specific CV type joint.

@@rontanis1024 I have a 15metre cruiser with a DAF615 engine and a Paragon transmission. There is a 8 point rubber flexible coupling between the transmission and the propeller shaft but for some reason the output flange splines have worn very much. I can't understand why, even if the transmission and propeller shaft are not perfectly aligned the output shaft shouldn't wear so badly.
