Shaggy Mane Mushroom Identification

The shaggy mane mushroom (Coprinus comatus) is an edible mushroom found in many temperate areas throughout the globe. It is a type of ink cap mushroom which means that as it gets old or quickly after picking it begins to break down into a black inky ooze. It grows in cultivated landscape areas and grassy meadows as well as adjacent to construction yards and disturbed areas.

The Inky Cap is a variation of the Shaggy Mane. Something about not to mix alcohol with the inky cap within 48 hours or there will be a mental disturbance

Yes. The shaggy main is a type of ink cap in the genus Coprinus. It's the only one in the genus that I've heard of as being edible but it's not recommended that you drink alcohol with it. As you mentioned it can cause some bad symptoms. I haven't really researched the chemicals involved and their effects yet though.

there are a number of species in the Amanita genus, they are commonly known as destroying angel and deathcap. Learn which species grow where you live. They happen to be in the same genus as the fly agaric mentioned in this video but much more toxic. It's a very interesting and complex genus of mushrooms.
