After 6 years, I decided to ask my dad his thoughts on that night when I told him I wanted to embrace Islam, and be a Muslim.

As a former Catholic, I could never understand the 1 in 3, God the father, God the son and the Holy spirit. I did talk about this with a priest, he told me just belief in it. I did not , after looking into other religions I reverted to Islam many years ago. Alhamdulilah.

My father just passed away in feb ,but unfortunately he was still a catholic 😭 i am a muallaf also like you,but i revert to islam back in 1997 when i was just in university. Your father is very reasonable and understanding. I can say he will think before he voice out his opinion. It can be seen when he advise you about fanatic group, he did mention about christian fanatic group first before talking about muslim fanatic group as well as buddhist and other religions. He chooses his words carefully. Although he is open, still he emphasis the concept of God that he believes. The way you interact is totally resemblance of your father. God will decide whether those who "claim" to be muslim in this world will go to heaven or not. I'm not God, so can't declare your destiny with certainity. Here is the principle though (if u r truly interested & not a troll) 1) Tawheed: our good self knows that all mankind is one because our loving lord is one. No one needs you to say that humans, idols etc are not god. Every rational person knows it. If people are unaware or misinformed of message of the rasool then they will still be judged on basic imaan. (Basic morals & rationale including tawheed). 2) (this is for muslims) they will be judged on their efforts and honesty (imaan) of what goodness they did when had been delivered with the true message. Note: Muslim is not a race. No one becomes a muslim just because their parents are muslim. Ex: even son of prophet Noah was not a muslim. Note: Every child in her mothers womb is a muslim, irrespective of the religion of their parents. Because they're already submitted to God. Now when a person becomes a bit mature then he is being tested whether he submit his will to God or not, whether he had righteous, imaandari or not. So, kids whether hindu, muslim or anything will not be judged as they're not accountable Islam is not racism.

I can see your dad has some misconceptions about Islam and he expressed a little opposition to Islamic concepts like Salah but it all can be corrected insha'Allah if you try.
