Wow the interior shots really show how little these cars have to do with the models their outer panels are based on now. I guess the suspension setups, ICE engines and aero are still different between makes, and they’ve done it for safety reasons, but at least when it was FIA spec cages worked into modified shells there was still some kind of vague connection to the road cars.
@UncleKennysPlace2 жыл бұрын
One interesting thing is that the engines are rather limited, so some hotrod street machines with the same engine make more power. The road cars certainly don't have the chassis dynamics, of course.
@Jonathan_Doe_2 жыл бұрын
@@UncleKennysPlace Yeah but in the case of the GR Yaris, the WRC car is still using the 4 cylinder engine from previous seasons, not the 3 cylinder from the road car. I think they did the road car as a 3 cylinder to homologate it for the R5 rules or something.

As an old spectator, AND participant in many Rallies in my Country("Acropolis" first, now at my 72 years of age, i wonder : What is the relation between a today's W.R.C car, and a car of my era... I know that almost 85% of nowdays spectators and participants are verry younger, maby between 17 to 35 years of age, but... Despite the speed, and the youth of pro-pilots, it is not so interesting for the spectator to go to the SS'S been able to see the competition between 2-3 brands.. TOYOTA, HIUNDAY, and FORD... In my era, the particypating BRANDS were, FORD, BMW, CITROEN, LANCIA, BLMC, VOLVO, AUDI, VW, SAAB, MITSUBISHI, SUBARU, SKODA, LADA, DATSUN(NISSAN), with many non pro-drivers, and the big possibility for a crew with verry low budget to be verry high on the finishing board... It happened to "US", 4 times... 2 times with TOYOTA(STARLET and COROLLA) and 8 good friends(mechanics), "service park" was something like a joke, and another 2 times with DATSUN(AND NISSAN) MICRA(1.000 and 1.300cc) overall winers of the categorry, and 8th, 11th, 19th, and 23rd overall at the finish line... That was the era for 160 participant cars under the "ACROPOLIS STARTING LINE", under the rock of the MONUMENT, and after 4 days(and nights) "driving", it was a REAL WIN to see the "chekered flag" even if you was the LAST on the "finishing board", and your "car" was a real scrap, with no headlights, no windshield, or it had "rolled" 2-3 times IN a S.S... I still remember an "ACROPOLIS" with 129 particypant cars, and only 8 at the "finish line" after 4 days !!!... THREE of them were not pro's !!!... I wonder... Which era was better... "Then", when "Rally" was real "Rallying", or "now" when "Rallying" is a "rally-sprint"... Cars were almost equall like the ones we were "driving to the office" and if the damages were serious(after the "finish line), we were using the ......Buss for some weeks(??)..🤣🤣... My Respect to all of you... I tryied to give just an opinion, and NOT a lesson... I thank each one who spent tiime to read "an old dog's memories and OPINION"... Thank you W.R.C... AND... GO GO GO KALE !!!... "PEDAL TO THE METAL"(Foul Throtle as we were saying)... My RESPECT to each one and all of YOU...❤... I,ll be waiting for you up on the Mountains(as a spectator) of next "ACROPOLIS RALLY"... And always remember friends.... "Rallying is the same batle as it's our LIFE"...😋😋

A lot of manufacturers left WRC, I dont have the full story but someone does. The WRC is in a really odd spot these days. It still is exciting but it's a different side to the sport. The cars especially this year are very different since they have the EV component and are essentially perfect purpose-made machines for the stages they run.
@vasilislagas6552 жыл бұрын
@@gregathol Dear friend(I mean this), thank you for your attention and polite disagreement(?).. In my poor opinion, many manifacturers AND spectators got away from nowdays "Rallyes", just because they know BOTH parts, that there is no similarity between a W.R.C YARIS, and the same car wich , as prospective customer, he will put in his "short list" of cars he has to check for buing... Years ago, S.S's in my Country Greece, were foul of spectators(some of them with over 30.000 people EACH, yes beleave me as a controller in many of them, at night) and most of them were waiting ro "see" wich car will get stages like "SS VAMVAKOU", "SS VASARAS", "SS LOUTRA SMOKOVOY"(now this SS is a.....lake), and others, in order to BUY this car wich was very close to the one it was in the "show room" with some modifications(not so many as "today") !!!!... Does it happen now ?... Definetly, NOT... Anyway... Our disqution was an honour to me, and verry delightfoull... God bless you...😋 I hope to "see" you(our Lord knows for me), up on the mountainss(??🤣) of "ACROPOLIS" in September !!!... Best Regards my Dear friend...😋😀... (The British phrase is valid... "You can NOT teach an old dog, new tricks")🤣🤣..

Nice to meet you, I'm a Japanese person who is a little younger than you. I feel like I can understand your feelings a little too. Due to geographical issues in Japan, rallies are not as popular as in Europe. However, there are many people who like cars, and I am one of them. I also had a semi-rally spec car when I was younger. That's because I admired the sight of a car similar to mine running in the WRC. However, recent WRC races tend to be dominated by cars with completely different specifications, rather than modified production cars. Not only the car, but also the driver, navigator, and mechanic. Japanese people know this well. For example, the former president of Toyota even drives a rally car himself and truly loves motorsports. This is the same for other Japanese manufacturers. Unfortunately, this idea differs from country to country. It seems like it's not a belief in cars, but a mindset that will stop at nothing to sell the car. For the WRC to be correct, it should be a race with production cars that have been moderately modified, just like in the past. WRC is certainly exciting right now, but it seems like it's out of reach for the average person, and it's dangerous.

there was a time when cars broke during the stage , repairs with mechanics had to be done against the clock. a time when driving a lancia was different than driving an audi, you could feel the difference driving the two, and also when the cars looked different from brand to brand. even an amateur could tell, thats a peugeot, thats an audi, etc. those times are gone, all brands look the same, cars behave the same. you can pick any car over the other, not a big deal to the result. now driving skill is still a major factor deciding the winner, maybe even more than before since all cars look and behave the same. funny tho. that supercharged turbo engine sounds like an electric toaster when revving, just like before. i couldnt tell which car is rovanpera in until i saw the toyota logo on the front bar even the light projectors look identical from brand to brand ,LOL
@beamed53822 жыл бұрын
Tf are you even talking about? They look very different and are developed very different. The times are very different depending on the car, why do you think Ford is always last in the championship no mattet the drivers they have? If you seriously think the cars look the same, get a time with the neuro doctors. Cars still break during the stage, mechanics still have to repair the cars against the clock. Oh and turbos sounds exactly the same no matter the car it's equipped with. You're simply hating on this sport and making useless and incorrect claims about the sport just to satisfy your wierd interest. Get a life man, just enjoy the sport since it's faster and better than ever. Have a good one.

What kind of a WRC is this without so many Manufacturers not taking part?? Where is SEAT? Where is VW? Where is MINI? The FIA should put the WRC on a ten year sabatical to enable global manufacturers to re-tool and then have a WRC with a full house of manufacturers. A WRC with ONLY two manufacturers (M-Sport is not a manufacturer team) is a major farce!!!
