Listening to the two of them argue cracks me up! Ismail was such an animated character...wish he was present with us today.

Very Nostalgic!👌 My maternal Uncle( now a writer based out of a suburban town in Amballa) told me of how he saw them perform back in 1970 while he was in school studying in the famous St Paul's Boys School in Darjeeling! Felicity was there along with her parents and Jennifer . They performed at all the famous Darjeeling schools including St.Pauls and Loreto Convent Girls school. ( my late mothers Alma Mater) . Loreto Convent fascinating as it may sound was also the school where the famous Vivian Leigh studied! Her parents were in the Tea Estates back in the day! The Kendells were a regular feature performing Macbeth back then. Years later my Uncle Deepak was driving and performing these plays in major schools in Delhi which was reported on by a couple of Newspapers. On hearing the news so impressed was she by his initiative, that Felicility personally called my Uncle to Delhi to interview him at the Taj! This was years later in 2016! How time comes around one full circle! 😇

Good lord. Felicity Kendal made this movie before I was born (I'm 53), and she still looks gorgeous.

So 40 years ago, they admired Indian films and Satyajit Ray was admired. He directed films to satisfy his passion and creative not to please the Hollywood or win an Oscar.

Love how they squabble over the meaning of "wallah" at the beginning. 😁James Cameron and Ismail Merchant made 44 films together. I think Madhur Jaffrey steals the show in "Shakespeare Wallah", brilliant acting.

Not boring at all, not after having read Felicity Kendall's autobiography of growing up in India in a Shakespeare touring company. Gave greater insight into the whole thing, and her amazing connection through this film being based on her family's story - and with her acting in it - and to Merchant and Ivory and the world of films.

I think we owe them a lot for discovering and valuing Shashi Kapoor.

Even Though it's Black and White, I can still make out that the scene where Sashi is glugging beer is surely in Shimla! 😇Look carefully and you will see Christchurch in the background! 👌
