More women should go out there. Plenty do though and more of those that do should get the backing of distribution networks and record companies. There is a good crop but a lot of them take unfortunate pressures. Hats off to Missy Elliott as one that didn't get hammered down. And Siobhan's ex's ex Annie Lennox.

Marcella and Siobhan complement each other so well - you have Marcella who has more vocal talent and hits those beautiful high notes, but Siobhan brings a bit more stage presence and theatrics to go along with the lower notes/spoken word stuff.

There has only been around 4 or 5 artists who have ever sung live on topmof the pops .not because they could or couldn't etc it was the producers say..he famously gave them one take and if it didnt workthey mimed ...it just took too long for each artist tk set ul everything perform get it food enough in several takes to the edit so it was quicker to simply mime . There 4 or 5 occasions where either artist refused to mime but were so big totp wanted them of they smashed it first time . Now in a strange twist one of the artist who refused to mime and was given a chance and smashed it first time was vanilla ice ,another was Evanescence bring me back to life. Now I can't remember the others or weather Shakespeare sister are singing live or not as a good gave me this information years ago ...Raymond Green and he was the bbc,s set designer and dresser .then later at retirement ago used to do the bbc tours .

Agree. Siobhan really put the Bananarama phase behind her with this group and the difference is especially striking here. Love her ringlets and resolutely stoic attitude. So gothic in the true Victorian sense of the word. The lyrics are partly a homage to a 1922 poem by Edith Sitwell called Hornpipe. The poem and the lyrics include the word "Hottentot", which was recently in the news as it was given a trigger-warning for its use in Mary Poppins.

Just wait....now Mary poppins has been re rated. They will come for this. ( I am kidding...but its the sort of thing that DOES happen) (for context from the BBC website) "Mary Poppins (1964) includes two uses of the discriminatory term 'hottentots'. The Oxford English Dictionary says the term, which referred to the Khoikhoi and San people, is "generally considered both archaic and offensive". I will be supprised if anyone even knew back then...or even care now. I dont care :)

1992. I think I stopped watching TOTP by then. I think they [ Shakespears Sister] missed a Trick back then - Good Vs Evil. Each Female singer taking in turns to WIN in the next song . . . in 1992 , they started to perform like a band and got lost in the Myriad of new talent in the 1990's. I DUNNO, the first singer 'WINS' by transforming the other singer into a Snake. The next song is a slippery-snake song , that ' WINS ' . The 'loser' from the previous song is Frozen only her Eyes and voice are active. Of course they are Fighting over the SOUL of the dead man that they BOTH ( once ) loved etc etc etc . When the band breaks up - they do a video which doesn't really explain anything, and 20 years later , when their money has run out - they agree to a 100K contract , which of course is only worth 25K in today's money , all the Band agree. Except 1 member . .. Wait ... my SPELL check and Grammer Check anint not no not working ,flibbertigibbet , it is my bedtime.

@GhostPepper233 They had several hits apart from Stay so your case isn't resting anywhere.
@GhostPepper2335 ай бұрын
@gregmcfarnon1140 let's give you some music education since you seem to have none. It is a fact that Stay was the only one song to hit #1, and it was only in 3 countries, UK, Ireland, and Sweden. It only made it to #4 in the US. That is it, only one song period. Hence, a one hit wonder, undisputed fact.
@gregmcfarnon11405 ай бұрын
@@GhostPepper233 Oh dear. Arrogance AND ignorance, a very unpleasant combo. As ever, people who tell others they're going to "educate" them are always the ones who need educating. The definition of a "one-hit-wonder" is a band or solo act who had - wait for it - ONE HIT and nothing else. Some purists say it means one #1 and nothing else. As well as Stay, Shakespears Sister had hits with You're History, I Don't Care, Hello(Turn Your Radio On) and I Can Drive so they do not fit either definition of a one-hit-wonder. Before you come back with "but here in the States..." remember there's the whole of the rest of the world. Thus disproving your "undisputed fact." Consider yourself educated
