The bayou is a deadly place IF one ventures into its depths with no respect or knowledge of where his place is in that eco system. I fell in love with it as soon as I paddled the pirogue thru the blackwater,and back into the cypress and duckweed. After a month,I paddled back out and felt I left a woman Ive loved all my life.To this day,almost 50 years later,I miss her more than ever. If you ever get the chance to go,go...but be respectful in there. The beauty is hauntingly captivating,and you can forget you are not the top of the food chain in there.And take a fone with GPS. Even if you have great sense of direction,you can get lost in there fast.The GPS is for rescue teams to hopefully find you.There was no such thing when I went. She let me go home.
