He spent a decade in virtual obscurity, then adopted an Elvis Presley persona-after playing him in a musical in the late 1970's & was huge from 1980-1986 or so. Sadly he didn't get a songwriting credit on this-so only gets a fraction of the massive royalties it generates.

More people should listen to Shakin' Stevens. Nobody seems to realise he was the UK's biggest-selling singles artist of the 1980s. This song was meant to be released in 1984, but he decided not to because of the Band Aid song Do They Know It's Christmas? He didn't want to compete with that for the Xmas Number 1, so he released it in 1985 and did get to Number 1.

The writers of this song got it spot-on in terms of music and mood which is why this one has stood the test of time. Shakin' Stevens paid his dues in the clubs for years before finally getting his commercial break with the Rockabilly revival that came in the wake of Punk. It was that which suddenly gave access to mass markets to artists who had been flogging themselves on the live circuit for years.

It's one of the huge Christmas songs over here in the UK, played all over every year, along with Slade, Wizzard, Wham etc...

This is well known in the U.K. 'Shakey' as he's known over here, is from Wales, and had a lot of hits in '80s.

Recorded in 1984 and scheduled for release that Christmas,the record company decided to pull this last minute because Band Aid had announced that "Do they know its Christmas" was being recorded and released., they knew that would get all the attention and sales. So they delayed it a whole year, and this became a huge number one in 1985.

Nice song, I remember it well. Christ and Cynthia, I hope the two of you are having a wonderful Christmas with friends and family. I've had a nice Christmas with my family, and am now chilling out on boxing day. I prepared Christmas this year, and it was a lot of work. I got two requests for the end of the year.... Models - I Hear Motion - 4K Remastered - Official Video 1983 austech Machinations - Pressure Sway nzoz1983 These were popular songs in my time at blue light discos and night clubs as a teen, and these also went down a treat during new year's eve parties... I’m VERY familiar with this effort by Shaky n I just love it ! It’s got the same cachet and Xmas appeal as Slade, Wizard and Whams best known offerings .
