Now this is a performance...JJ excellent on the bass, Hugh playing an awesome lead/rythmn riff. And to say that some people seem to suggest that he's not a good guitarist...

and what was my 'vintage' of fan liked.,. well maybe the aggression, majesty, beauty, irony and bluntness that sealed the deal for many of us. Rattus Norvegicus, as a 14 year old kid on holiday in Wales I begged my parents to buy this for me . Blimey what an album, definetely not suitable for such a tender age hehe

Hugh's harmonies in the chorus are excellent - JJ isnt the best singer ever but then again so what - They're The Stranglers - he matches what they are - the best band ever!

Somebody mentioned support bands. I remember the following, Hazel O'connor, Tea-Set, Steel Purse, Doctor spratts 20th Motets, Dictators, Cure, Boys in darkness, I'm sure U2 once supported them too, Didnt JJ smack one of them?
@WAWELDRAGON14 жыл бұрын
@glastonburysong I dont agree entirely. The Stranglers output since Hugh hasnt been (with a few glorious exceptions) of the qaulity of the initial years of the band. Hugh was the VOICE of the stranglers. His singing voice was so emblematic of the band. In the early 80s and after the Hugh period in the 90's I saw the band live a number of times. Without Hugh the band wouldnt have been famous, period. Without the others (JJ Jet and Dave) its doubtful too

the version is really great. the funny thing is, that later that evening the german audience began hissing and insulting the band and they insulted back. there was a lot of bad feeling at this gig and they finished it playing lousy on purpose!!!

is this the first song that 'jj' sang?.......i liketo think that hugh was the cornerstone of the band

JJ is a fantastic bass player, but a mediocre singer.
