My inner pantheist/animist is jumping with joy over this development! A lot of oracle decks don't resonate with me because of their high/light vibe, it's like they treat divinity or spirit as something "up there in the sky" and somehow separate from us and from the Earth. That doesn't resonate with me. But these decks that you're showing, they do

Well if you are looking to get away from "high light vibe" decks, check out the tarot of Vampyres! My fav deck of all time for shadow work- that deck has literally changed my life- in a good way LOL.

I recently bought the shamanic medicine Oracle. It is such a beautiful deck. I am interested in shamanism and am wondering if you could do a video on how to incorporate Shamanic decks into one’s practice, either on their own or with tarot. Thanks!.

Loved this video! An interesting thing caught my eye - one of the cards (the woman holding a white rabbit) in the Earth Warrior Oracle (30:04) is the same image as the Spring Equinox/Rebirth card (and the box and book cover) from Steven Farmer's Earth Magic Oracle Deck. But, different artists. Hmmm. Makes me wonder about publishers, the industry as you pointed out, shelling out decks for money and not properly checking up on copyright and such.
@Someone-or3yr
@Someone-or3yr 4 жыл бұрын
Not a copyright issue at all, it is the same artist. Stephen Farmer had rights to use that art for the spring equinox card. All cards in the Earth Magic Oracle are by a different artist, he just took images that resonated with the meanings, I am assuming he had the rights to do so. But the artist behind the the Sacred Earth Oracle, Helena Nelson-Reed is the sole artist of that entire deck and has the rights to use her own work :)

I love your channel, Kelly. I often have to watch your videos in installments because they are so dense with information. I like shaman type decks too. Enjoy the video. I'm surprised how cool that "Shamanic Medicine" is. I thought it would be ... fluffier, somehow. You might want to look at the Primordial Tarot. Cavemen.

Great video😊. I wanted to note standing stones are being found to have originated from people's from the Near East. (To say it broadly as I can't remember a more specific term for the culture. I believe its the same culture as is still found to be the major genetic contributors to Greeks and Albanians alike.) 👍🤗

Great video, Kelly, thank you! It's such an individual way how we all approach our spiritual path and what it means for our personal life. The same goes for specific topics like shamanism. I feel that criticism has become more of an issue for decks lately. The more variety there is the more people start to moan about details. Feels very weird sometimes. Or is it just me being more sensitive lately?!? Anyways. I love working with a lot of the decks that you've shown too. On my wishlist is a deck called "Dream Dust Shamanic Tarot" which might be interesting for you too. It's a bit abstract like M. Petersen, but different. There is also a Shamanic Tarot from Lo Scarabeo out there, but that goes into the "it's a personal preference if you'll like working with it or no"-category ;o) As you know combining decks is my favorite way of using cards, so finding decks that work great with each other is of high interest for me. Thanks again for your insights. xx

It really is, and that is one of the beautiful things, all the individuality. I definitely don’t thing you’re being sensitive I think that it’s good that with so many options we CAN buy more critically but at the same time I think there is a lot of stress for deck creators to meet the gauntlet of expectations when in the end we can simply pass on something that doesn’t work for us! I’ll have to look at that dream deck!!

... thanks a lot for the video. I personally don't like the spirit & air Oracle Decks, because those are qualities I have enough on my own. Additionally I'm not fond of feminine (or masculine) decks ... because - as an ambonec person - I think the rigid female-male binary division isn't generally helpful. Yet, the complementary difference between female and male has it's moments and validity. It's just not as universal as people suppose. Concerning tarot decks: I like the Celtic Wisdom Tarot very much ... and also the weird, dark, fluid Grim Tarock by Ian Miller. "Shaman(ic)" ... to me you explain the term on point. Actually I don't understand how folks can use a very ambiguity intolerant definition. Furthermore the term is in no way closely linked to Native American. A definition that is linked to that culture isn't appropriate because their spiritual specialist are not shamans but medicine people. And of course cultural appropriation is an issue (and false accusations are also). Here's a good guide: www.sfu.ca/ipinch/resources/teaching-resources/think-before-you-appropriate/ Shamanic Medicine: Beyond the horrible cover/box art and the not so balanced back of the cards, the deck is good. I wish the alienation technique that is used for the pictures to step out of actual cultures and yet leaving a respectful echo of specific ones would have been used much more. The base line is quite Celtic ... Angels and Ancestors: ... similiar issue with an abundance in white folks and traditions (with some non-white stereotyping) and also way too binary gendered. Also some appropriated traits appear in the artwork. However, I like many of the archetypes and I can relate since some of my animal guides are depicted. The artwork: Well done. For my personal preferences quite too fantasy/photoshop realistic. Mystical Shaman: ... some of the art is stunning, most is quite good, some of it borders new age/gothic fantasy kitsch. Beautifully yet quite airy painted are all of the pics. It's doing way better in not falling prey to a rigid gender binary than angels and ancestors but it's still some steps away from what I deem appropriate. It still has some whiteness issues and at the same time Native Latin American symbols seem a bit too blatantly used in my opinion. Sacred Earth: WOW! The art style is gorgeous. It gentle, fluid and flexible. It's a shame the very binary motives betray that. The logic of two is very present. It shouldn't. It would have served the deck very well if skin coulors, genders, body shapes, ... were more diverse since the deck is - like you said - not about the sacred earth but about the web of social connection. The art style would have allowed a way more diverse approach and wouldn't have felt forced - because it's a style that already touches diversity and ambiguity and abundance. Earth Warriors: Everything you said is on spot. To me the cards have kind of animus or anima qualities. Weavers' Oracle: Beautiful ... I guess the author/painter wanted something to reassure and strenghten womens' identity which is fine, yet ... I strongly consider weaving fabrics, stories and magick NOT to be a gendered practice. If so ... I'd attribute it most to third gender people (who in ancient times were the most likely gender to become shamans). Here are some resources: James Sturm's graphic novel Market Day, Heinrich Heines poem "The Silesian Weavers" (poetrypoem.com/cgi-bin/index.pl?poemnumber=190349&sitename=verseofapoet&poemoffset=0&displaypoem=t&item=poetry) and you may wanna have a look at the works and biography of famous two-spirit weaver We'wha. ... maybe for the purpose of the deck I would haven chosen to make it "the crones' oracles" ... also because cronehood isn't exactly linked to age but to power, individuality, sense for the community, wisdom and discarding other's expectations. The personal take, the degree of ignorance to beauty ideals, the power, ... are qualities I value very much about the deck. The Shaman's Oracle: I don't relate too much. Maybe the cards are too conservative for me. I miss cards like "the dancer of shadow" or "the hunter of valour" or "the shaman of transformation" ... From the cards alone they seem balanced in fixed categories and do not show the fluidity I'd need. Earthbound: Very concrete images ... simple images, but often with a very wide range of meanings. The approach is beautiful. A bit leaning to binary and cliché ... that one needs to deconstruct first. I'd also rather not have the wicca and alchemist influences and I'd rather have symbols closer to earth. Favourite cards: abundance, healing, sleep, ... Celtic Shaman Pack ... well it's well done but not that spectacular. If you do know the Celtic stories I suppose you can easily read "the lady of the cauldron" as "the dagda's cauldron" or "the wildman" as "wild woman". The cards are symbols for stories, processes and dynamics IMHO. It seems to be a powerful deck, but you need to delve into Celtic tradition and mythology to really get a lot out of it. Devas of Creation: IMHO a very airy deck. Feels like angels and nature spirits. It's nice, but I don't see much shamanic qualities. Thanks again for introducing the decks. All of them have their qualities and I do relate to most of them quite strongly. Yet most of them also have their issues.

I was totally going to buy the angels and ancestors deck because of the beautiful art work but upon research, there are two extremely problematic cards in that deck. Please go watch Inle’s inlet’s video about why. It has to do with appropriating the indigenous sami culture.

I suppose titles such as "Pantheistic Oracle" isn't sexy enough to be marketable enough LOL. Would you say shamanic is pantheistic though? I am not sure... As for the use of the term "cultural appropriation", it has been so misused and so overused it is not even funny anymore. My whole heritage is a mixture of various cultures that from the point of views of those who have misused the term, rotten tomatoes should be thrown at the graves of my ancestors for the crime of "appropriating" other cultures :/ Thank you for chatting about it.
@TheTruthinStory
@TheTruthinStory 5 жыл бұрын
I agree, its a far more complicated topic and you see so many ways its being discussed that I don’t think people are using the term to mean the same thing and so it keeps getting more and more convoluted. I am not an anthropologist but while there are shamanic pantheists I don’t know that all shamanic traditions are pantheistic? Probably many of them are, I should have been an anthropologist lol :D
@ultravioletpisces3666
@ultravioletpisces3666 5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say that pantheism was the same as shamanic, at all. You could be pantheistic and not shamanic and you could be shamanic and not be pantheistic. I think the term hedgewitch comes in close to being similar in meaning to shamanic practices.
