I've seen nearly every Kathak video on KZbin. This is still one of the very best I've ever seen.

After a year or two I was suddenly reminded of this beautiful piece by Ms. Vazhe and wanted to watch it. Trust me I had to search with so search strings and had concluded that it is unfortunately not available any more. And that is because Ms. Vazhe is now Ms. Dandekar. Congratulations:) And of course, a beautiful piece. I have shown it to so many people.

I like to watch kathak videos on KZbin and I have seen a lot of them, but I always end up watching this one. Movements, synchronization, costumes, music - everything is perfection itself!

What an excellent piece -- very subtle but extremely sharp! As a Kathak dancer I know how difficult it is to have everybody synchronised so perfectly; it makes the achievement even greater -- well done.

what a finely choreographed piece of kathak! and such precise synchronisation! yet the most imortant aspect that most art forms lack: SIMPLICITY. the music as well is equally commendable for being so integrated, harmoniuos with just the optimum balance. i have not seen this anywhere else so far.

I´m from Turkey and i was so impressed since my childhood for this kind of music and dance Later somehow i found out of the turkish influence in past and that makes me more interresting. And on the other side turkish people has also influences from indian traditional things and mehndi, clothing....

@parleegee I'm not sure what you think "typical Kathak dance" is, but what's performed here is very traditional Kathak. Everything from the music, movements, and costume are traditional in this Kathak style. Kathak is known for it's both it's slow and delicate to it's fast and sharp movements.

I hated kathak thanks to doodarshan as it seemed most boring and repetitive of all the dance forms. Today, I am in awe after seeing this performance. I had never seen kathak so beautifully coordinated and with such amazing music. Thanks a lot Shambhavi for making me realize how wrong I have been all these years.

@Khwaab The Victorian Brits did that. They pronounced the dance indecent & consigned it to the brothel when they took over India. It was originally a temple dance & than it was a court dance long before the Brits arrived.

REally unmatchable. Performance beyond comments. Cant be criticized for anything atleast by common men like us. I am surprised the synchoronization of hand movements of the group, how they did it. The photography needs little improvement though.

@azimramariz Indian classical dance takes many years to learn, just like any other classical art form. It really does take a lifetime to learn because there's so much to learn. It's best to learn from a teacher who can give you the right corrections in dance, that way you have the correct basic technique and also so you don't cause any injury to yourself. :-)

@Khwaab I agree, I must have watched this video 100x and always find it inspiring. But the courtesans did help to preserve Kathak, which would've been otherwise lost due to the British rule in India. So they had a very important place in Kathak's history.

since my experience of kathak is from Bollywood movies, so I know very little. I would like my niece to learn so I watching vdos now so I can encourage her. One thing see a lot now is that Kathak has become temple dance, like Bharat Natyam. I was under the impression that if was started in the Mughal courts , I maybe wrong. Has it evolved into a mixture of Kathak and Temple dances which as far as I know all most Indian dances got their start from?

I think indian people has most beautifull culture in the world... (turkish people are arabics in past - before Byzans) We have to be happy that some things in history is happening and the result are things like Kathak and so many diffrent dances and music.. -...SORRY, my english is not perfect!!
@AksheeShadow17 жыл бұрын
Then came the mughal empire which included it into its culture and originated lucknow gharana.. So we have 3 gharanas for it as far as I know Jaipur, banaras and lucknow. So kathak done in mughal courts were an ugly representation of a beautiful dance form :)
