I would not use it if I were a non black person use it and I think is using it is also problematic but there is no unity on the issue. I’m tired of fighting us not to use it. But I will say we are the only race that uses slurs against ourselves or even as a positive and a negative.

When it comes to the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni story, two things can be true. Blake Lively was probably harassed on set but she also is not likeable. I’m not sure if she only had the movie’s box office performance at heart. Lets remember she used a movie about intimate violence to promote her new hair care line as well as a new beverage. Crazy. She refused to acknowledge the main character was a victim of violence and encouraged women to go watch the movie with their girlfriends like it was a party. To me she sounds a bit disconnected. BUT it doesn’t mean she shouldn’t be believed and that she deserved what happened on set.

Right, they should've presented the context and background surrounding Joe's statements. Instead they began with Rachel's disdain for him, but they are not journalists so I guess it is what it is (as far as personal feelings go). FBA's are claiming to be the sole originators of all things related to Black American culture. I understand the roots of their cause, but the insults and antagonizing of black people from other countries takes the legs out of their legitimacy. It negates the struggle people in the diaspora faced w/colonization. Hoarding victimhood, is low key American exceptional-ist asf but I digress. Also ignoring the influence of the diaspora IN CERTAIN aspects (a la Hip-Hop) of Black American culture is a bit overreaching and inaccurate at times. The claim of being and existing in America pre- trans Atlantic slavery is enough. Rap is but 1 element of (the 5 in) Hip Hop iykyk. And the loudest mf'ers don't know. It's a NY thing in it's origins and if you were from certain areas/conditions then you were apart of it. Ny'ers never had a problem with that.
@nonealike23 күн бұрын
As far as the "non-black" use of the N word. It's a slippery slope in NYC. Folks don't understand the demographics. Everybody from the outside wants to talk about what they would do but they aren't there lol. NYC isn't largely Black and white like some other places. So if you're in the hood, you're just gonna be hood and do/say hood shi. Particularly if you are Black (from the diaspora) or Brown (Spanish speaking). Class factors in heavily. In which case the n word just means a dude. I can see how it's problematic to folk though but, again, it's mostly outsiders who have an issue with it.
@scionnole22 күн бұрын
@Riccostorm5971 Completely agree. Fat Joe is only speaking on FBA because they have attacked him over trying to tell the history of the various ethnicities/communities with creating hip-hop. In my mind he has a right to make that defense. As far as the n-word. I don't use it but others do and I don't get trying to gate keep a word. If it's out there it will be used.
@cald4aprps62822 күн бұрын
@nonealike Those "outsiders" have ancestors who were deeply affected by that word and if they ask for him not to say it, they why does he feel entitled to continue to say it? It becomes disrespect at that point.

Who are the people not giving American Blacks their flowers and why is anyone listening to those people. Black American culture is beautiful, rich and lasting. It is why as a mother I fight to keep it in the school system. I am Caribbean and my husband is black American and we don’t get the divisiveness. We can appreciate all black culture and each other. Why are we fighting? It feels manufactured to separate black people and make white supremacy stronger. White people aren’t distinguishing themselves from one another and are plotting against us. How are we going to fight against white supremacy when we are in-fighting? Also, why is Van mad at Joe who has contributed to hip hop and not Andrew Schultz who has done nothing for the culture. Fat Joe ain’t right but Andrew Schultz was all the way wrong. LOVE you Van but you need to keep that same energy. Peace!

RACHEL IS CORRECT!!… The term “African-American” is specifically for the descendants of enslaved Africans born in the United States of America. It was coined by Jesse Jackson and 1988. It speaks to both ethnicity and nationality. Most Africans from the continent don’t call themselves Africans. They call themselves Nigerians, Senegalese, Liberians, Ethiopians etc… The term, African-Americans was because the descendants of enslaved Africans could not trace their ethnicity or nationality to a specific nation and Africa, and therefore have to refer to the entire continent. So, President Elon Musk is not an African-American. He’s just a white man who was born in Africa and is now an immigrant in America… The irony that the most anti-immigrant candidate would have an African immigrant who has multiple children by multiple women as the secret president is hilarious.
