That’s still toxic sweetie, almost everyone in a toxic relationship have something inside of them that causes them to be toxic in the relationship. From John & Yoko, to Sid and Nancy to Kurt and Courtney and even on this show Frank and Monica. I don’t think people go into relationships wanting it to be toxic, but every toxic couple I have listed have been through some form of trauma since kids on up, Frank was abused as a kid, and when he found Monica she was screaming and running from a man, saying please don’t rape me again! Plus with mental issues added onto that, you don’t think that causes any type of long term effects on her and maybe that’s reasons why she self medicate with drugs and fell in love with Frank and he probably talked about how his mom treated him as a kid and Monica probably told him to self medicate too because it makes her feel good and forget the trauma and it will do the same thing for him. Frank even said the first line of coke he ever did was with Monica, and we all know drugs destroys people in the worst way but I’m sure Monica didn’t tell Frank to do it to hurt him or destroy him, she thought she was helping him and with them being both so codependent on each other and drugs and when they started to have kids, the love was there but they were still just so fucked up, it caused them to be toxic lovers and toxic parents. No one tries to be toxic, but that’s what happens when you don’t get the proper help and you try a quick fix and self medicate yourself with drugs.

actually, it does. If you look at this part and ignore every other part of gallavich in the show, then yes you wouldn't get it. This scene is probably one of the most heartbreaking scenes. Previous to this scene, Mickey and Ian were having intercourse and were caught by his homophobic father. He beat them both and had a prostitute rape his son. Mickey was raped at gun point. That is minus the parts/times that he had to get with her to convince his dad. Mickey was struggling with his sexuality, trauma, and fear of his abusive dad. He was scared to touch Ian. He wasn't allowing himself to love him. They didn't leave emotion out of this scene. You can literally see Mickey, shake his head and nearly break down after hitting him. Jump skip to season 5 when Ian starts his battle with Bipolar, you will get "how this relationship works". Ian loved Mickey, and Mickey loved Ian; however, it took Mickey time to accept this fact.
