The Supreme Court has ruled that Shamima Begum cannot return to the UK to mount a legal battle against the removal of her British citizenship. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
She left east London, aged 15, with two other schoolgirls to join the so-called Islamic State in 2015.
Her citizenship was revoked by the then home secretary Sajid Javid on national security grounds after she was found in a refugee camp two years ago.

I can never show sympathy to someone who choose to join a terrorist organisation. I don’t care how old she was. She’s not a child now, and I simply don’t trust her. Call me cold hearted if you want. A 15 year old is unable to consent, drive, vote, buy alcohol, nicotine, fireworks, knives, butane, lottery tickets, petrol, solvents, she couldn't even buy a sun bed at the age she ran away. Yet it would seem the vast majority believe she was old enough to make an informed decision as to her running away to live in Syria under ISIS. She grew up in a broken home, was groomed online and fed extremist lies. To not take responsibility for her as a society is amoral, to leave her there was to knowingly leave her child to die. History will look back poorly on this decision. She should have been brought back to the UK and be made to stand trial as a UK citizen. When she left she was seen as a victim that should be rescued, a morality most were happy to wear because it required nothing of them. Yet now we're at the other side she's being touted as a criminal who made her own choices. Clearly there are many in our society to whom their ability to meaningfully empathise has devolved into nothing more than self righteous virtue signalling, a masquerade that cracks the moment any real issue presents itself.

Yes it's illegal but that doesn't mean that 15 year olds are stupid. Also, running away from home to support genocide isn't comparable to buying cigarettes, alcohol or even minor crimes like stealing. Britain didn't create the jihadi problem. I think what's gonna happen here is she will appeal and it will probably transpire that it was an illegal decision that was made. It is natural for most of us to want to wash our hands of her but we know points of law aren't based on emotion, it always comes down to hard evidence and facts. My personal concern about this case is, and I'm not sure if these are others concerns, is that if she is bought back and, through a lack of evidence, it results in her being given a relatively short sentence, or even her freedom because of her age at the time. We know how poor our justice system is over here and that could leave her with her citizenship back along with her freedom, a win win situation for her, and giving out the wrong message to others who may choose to follow her example.
