This is a Chinese myth. According to legend, in ancient times, ten suns appeared in the sky at the same time, and the climate was extremely hot. In order to save the people, Hou Yi, a hero with infinite power, climbed up a high mountain, stretched out his bow and arrow, and shot down nine suns to restore the climate to normal. Hou Yi was therefore revered as a hero. Hou Yi asked the gods for elixir, and after taking it, he could live forever. The gods were moved and took the Jade Rabbit to the Moon Palace, letting it accompany Chang'e and giving it the task of making medicine. According to legend, the Mid-Autumn Festival is the day when Chang'e flies to the Moon Palace. That day happens to be the Mid-Autumn Festival (August 15th in the lunar calendar, which is September 17th this year)

As another friend mentioned, in Chinese folklore, it's said that the rabbit on the moon grinds the elixir of immortality, while in Japan, it's imagined that the rabbit is pounding mochi, which is a soft, gooey treat mostly made of sticky rice and red beans. I'm not sure if cats and rabbits would enjoy it, but maybe adding some catnip would make everything perfect, lol!

In my home country there was a TV puppet show in which a cat and a rabbit were close friends, they were called Mauz and Hoppel. Another strange couple there were Mr. Fox and Mrs. Magpie. The hammer 🔨 still is quite impressive and possibly overkill. The catnip is rather possible, though, I agree. Nice music!
