@slenderman27413 жыл бұрын
If I’m being honest tho, I never got bored because I knew it was wrong, and I did feel edgy as a 12 year old kid watching this stuff, whats worse is that I know how it shaped me when I was a teenager too, and I just regret ever thinking it was COOL to say stuff like that, Cus now I HEAR stuff like that and I’m like ??? I had a rough home life so maybe a part of me enjoyed having a source to direct all my self hatred, or maybe I liked treating others how I was treated in a way. Either way, I desperately wish I had a more normal childhood and was taught better/ supervised so I could’ve understood WHY it was wrong instead of learning that on my own later on in life..so I could’ve made better choices as a teenager. Now there’s people out there that think of me and think the worst and I rlly can’t blame them.

Honestly it's not just Shane's edgy humor that gets played out fast, the whole "I am so poor OMG look at me walking around in torn and dirty clothes and not taking a shower for days on end" is just so tone deaf in hindsight considering the fact that Shane probably hasn't been poor since like the early 2010s.

While the fat jokes in Avengers: Endgame did sometimes make me uncomfortable, I think Thor being fat was something that did contribute to the story, and that there was something genuinely emotional mined from it even with all the fat jokes. One of the things Avengers: Endgame is about is the different ways we react to trauma, and all the main members of the Avengers reacted to the trauma of the snap in different ways: Captain America facilitates group therapy, Tony Stark moved on with his life, got married and had a kid, Black Widow coordinates Avengers operations as a way to take her mind off things, Hawkeye becomes Ronin and goes on a vengeful rampage, Hulk figures out a way to merge the Hulk and Banner sides of himself into Smart Hulk, and Thor withdraws - he plays video games, hides in New Asgard, and gets fat. These are all representations of ways that people do deal with trauma. Chris Hemsworth has arguably the most sucritinised and celebrated physique of the Avengers cast members, so that physique is just another in the long list of things Thor had lost at that point, including his family and home. I think the scene he shared with Frigga was one of the movie's most effective moments, and I'm glad that he was still worthy and wielded Mjolnir and Stormbreaker while he was fat.

@@kingjammm3500 Exactly, definitely not good. But if the only jokes you can come up with have to insult and demean, do it to everyone. Blackface is wrong let me make that clear, but if you're going to do it comedically, it should be mocking the people that would do blackface, NOT making black people the butt of the joke. I was an Onision fan for a very short period of time, which was when my mental health was at its lowest, and I'm still struggling with it to this day

Damn, that's scary and I'm sorry to hear that. How do you feel now? I'd genuinely probably rather have my kids watch Quentin Tarantino movies than watch Shane Dawsons content. At least Tarantino has talent ffs. I'm obviously exaggerating as I'm not going to let my 9 year old watch Pulp Fiction but at least that content isn't targeted at children.

I'm very glad I was old enough to not find this guy funny when he first became big on KZbin, since I'm only a couple of years younger than him. I can't imagine how much psychological damage he's done to children over the years with his content.

Because it's an actual subversion of expectations and not just an insult. It's not a great joke, but it's the most well-constructed one in all of this shite.

ok but the part where the guy goes “everyone shut up and look at me” and shane’s friend gasps and opens her jacket bc that’s what her shirt says… that was funny

I absolutely love how you can talk about something serious but still be INSANELY funny. Like, I understand Shane is trash. But this deserves a cinematic award. Quality Content. Keep it coming.

The second movie doesnt even have the message of loving yourself. It has the message of don't feel too bad about yourself because there are people who are fatter and uglier than you.

I used to love Shane and watched all his movies and shorts all through 5th gradeish to highschool. When I look back on it now I'm surprised his "humor" didn't cause me more issues growing up especially considering all through school I struggled to feel secure in my own skin. Now it's not a surprise that I was panoid, felt like people call you fat /obese all the time and that's all people think about...because that's all Shane chose to focus on for his "humor". I was larger in school and I was afraid of being the butt of the joke due to my weight. Shane wasn't the sole reason for my insecurities but it definitely added something

oh you are SO lucky most of his short films have been deleted, he had countless that always followed the same formula--cheap offensive jokes for 90% and then a cheesy, insincere, "heartfelt" message shoehorned in at the end. just off the top of my head... --him feeling left out at his school's father's day dance because he doesn't have a dad. i think this one also included a teacher coming onto him. interesting fantasy you got there shane... EDIT::i almost forgot! there was also a scene dedicated to making jokes about bulimia. wouldn't be a shane dawson video without something belittling about weight, after all --he did a christmas special every year with a song. i don't remember that well--there was one where shanaynay was the grinch and some poor child actor had to be involved in a shane dawson film, and one where he got with lisa at the end or something? or maybe that was the same one idk --there was one called emo breakup where, like you'd expect, two emo characters broke up, and then got back together at the end very cheesily, of course. lots of cutting and suicide jokes throughout. --the shanaynay christmas carol-esque one. shanaynay shows shane the world if he were never born and everyone is better off without him, then at the end it turns out one lonely kid committed un-alive in the no-shane universe, moral is even if you feel insignificant you matter to somebody. tbh, the ending could have potentially been good if it was done by literally anyone else and executed differently. any time he almost hits a good moral, the main content of the videos detracts from the message completely. i don't know why he couldn't just commit to either offensive, meaningless content, or actual heartfelt messages--trying to mash those together just detracts from BOTH sides of it. there were probably a LOT more, but those are the ones i can remember on the spot

I thought I liked him but what I really liked was his friends and ghost hunting. I couldn’t sit through them Jeffree Star or Jake Paul series and I never knew why. I moved onto better “ghost hunters” like Shane Madej and Ryan Bergara and honestly it’s been pretty chill here.

@@mia-fu9nd same his queen Mary series were my comfort videos, I actually didn't mind the Jake Paul series but I couldn't get through the Jeffree Star videos, even before Jeffree got cancelled and everyone found out about how bad of a person he is, he always gave me the creeps like how he talked and the way he interacted with people freaked me out.

This is not me trying to be like "hoho I was never into Shane I'm so superior" but tbh I remember when I was young I tried to get into him and I just... Couldn't. At the time I just thought he was boring, unfunny, and obnoxious, but looking back I'm so glad I dodged that bullet
@Ffallingstarss3 жыл бұрын
Same. My little sister loved him and always tried to get me to watch him with her but even then I thought he was obnoxious and unfunny. I used to think it was because I didn’t like comedy, now I know he just literally isn’t funny in any sense. Nuke dodged as far as I’m concerned
