In some ways i understand that, I usually become friends with people that need someone or I feel like I can help because I want to help them. saying this, I dont side with people if I know they are wrong and I wont associate myself with people that are rude to others that I know wont change any time soon. If I can help someone and be a type of support to someone so that they feel like they can rely on someone close to them if they are too afraid to talk to a teacher then I will because I want them to know that they arent alone. Again, im going to try and persuade them as much as possible to get actual help and if I can push someone in the right direction I will. I remember watching her in his videos back in the day as I was a big fan. I remember feeling so uncomfortable and bad for Shanna during some of the clips. (Some I thought were funny sadly, I was young) But others he went way too far & I knew that at the time. I just didn’t think twice about it as she never was bothered, but I still felt like she was hiding that it hurt. It was kind of “ok” back then, as people didn’t get so easily offended, and seeing her not care made a lot of people (that weren’t black) think that it was “ok.” Not that it’s her fault or anything, but I think that’s part of the reason it was deemed as “ok” at the time. The HUGE difference between Shane Dawson and Jenna Marbles's apologies is that Shane never had a problem with all of this until people started calling him out on it. He never felt any guilt upon doing it, and the videos were monetized for years before he denounced them. Jenna, however, didn't have to be dragged into holding herself accountable. She looked back on what she did and apologized, without anyone having to ask her to. That, to me, makes her apology way more genuine than Shane's.

Please feel free to disagree with me, but I don’t think there is necessarily anything less genuine about an apology that is made after people have been asking for it. Perhaps it reflects that Shane is less brave than Jenna, as it took him longer to make an apology video than it took her, but we as fans don’t really have any idea about how Jenna or Shane have thought or felt about what they did or how genuine their apologies are, etc.

definitely, I remember watching his skits with Shanaynay and blackface and feeling weird about it. A lot of his jokes went too far so I didn't watch his stuff too often. okay so i dont forgive him. I just cant. But this IS one of the apologies I can accept. This is one of the first apologies that seem actually genuine. Not even a fan, but he is the only person that apologized that says that he knew it was wrong. These influencers pull the ignorance card and act like they don't know it's wrong. Shane took full responsibility and I can really respect that. He owned up to it, he realized that excuses wouldn't work and he truly apologized. That's really admirable. I don't forgive him.
